How You Can Help to Understand and Improve Mental Health Care

Humber Research and Development Team and the National Centre for Mental Health (NCMH) need your help to improve understanding of aspects of mental health. These three surveys are open to anyone who meets the criteria for inclusion. Please take a look at the descriptions below and if you meet the criteria for inclusion, just scan the QR code or click on the link to complete the survey.

Maternal Mental Health

Are you currently pregnant or have you given birth in the last 12 months?

The National Centre for Mental Health works to improve diagnosis, treatment and support for people affected by mental illness. Help make a difference by taking part in this national maternal wellbeing and mental health survey.

This study aims to capture the effects that life events have on experiences of pregnancy.

Take part by visiting www.bit.ly/maternalHTS, or scan the QR code:

NCMH Trauma study

Are you aged 18 or over and have experienced or witnessed some form of trauma, either during childhood or as an adult (e.g. accidents, serious illness, abuse, assault)?

This national survey is trying to understand the impact of trauma on mental health, to help improve support. It will take around 15 minutes to complete, depending on how you answer the questions. You don’t need to answer any questions you don’t want to.

Take part online by visiting www.bit.ly/TSHumber, or scan the QR code:

PreDDICT

Are you aged 18 or over and experience Premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD)?

PMDD is characterised by the presence of at least five symptoms, including one affective symptom, such as mood swings, irritability, and/or depression, in the final week of the majority of menstrual cycles. Symptoms improve and become minimal or absent in the week after your period starts.

It is not known what causes PMDD, or if PMDD actually refers to a number of different conditions. NCMH seeks to understand by finding out about the experiences of a group of people with PMDD. This online survey takes approximately 20-25 minutes to complete

The study in brief:

About the study - Our researchers are looking into the causes of premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) so we can help improve care for people affected by it.

We want to hear from people who have: experienced severe symptoms of premenstrual syndrome (PMS) in their lifetime, or symptoms or a diagnosis of PMDD

Take part by visiting www.bit.ly/pmdd-humber, or scan the QR code:

We look forward to seeing you at one of the events!

Friends and Family Test

The Friends and Family Test (FFT) is an important feedback tool that supports the fundamental principle that people who use NHS services should have the opportunity to provide feedback on their experience. It provides a mechanism to highlight patient experience and is vital in transforming NHS services, supporting patient choice and implementing changes based on your feedback.

Each month we will be sharing patient experiences from our different services, alongside a patient comment.

89.2%

of respondents (74 total) thought they were involved in their care and listened to within the Mental Health Unplanned Division in April 2026.

"Listened to me and visited me when they said they would. They also talked with my other support people to make sure everything was covered when I moved into my flat."
