Kia ora koutou,

In preparation for the winter season, the SH20B project team continues working throughout the night to progress the project with little impact on daytime traffic.

Last month we completed the west bound cycle ramp between the lookout and Pūkaki Creek Bridge. We have also been busy carrying out line marking which is now 90 per cent complete for the T3 lane green and red painting. This leaves the shared use path to be line marked next.

We have started to disestablish our temporary site yard with clearing the stockpiles and reinstating the yard. We also have the SH20 interchange work scheduled for this Thursday night 5 August along with the Orrs Road pavement works happening this weekend (6 - 8 August).

Introducing Lucy Peddie

Story
Story

Lucy began her journey at Fulton Hogan in March last year after having eight years’ experience in her previous construction role. Lucy is currently a project engineer for SH20B and oversees a lot of the crucial works such as drainage, earthworks, pavement construction, fencing and landscaping.

While the project was unique and had its own challenges along the way, the main drive was to have the project run to the schedule and complete by the final deadline which was achieved. "The speed of this project was so fast and there was no time to waste, the amount of work done in such a short period of time was incredible," Lucy says. Seeing the final product was the best feeling ever!

In her spare time Lucy likes to get out in the weekends with her two young children exploring for fun things to do. She is also completing her masters degree and working on her research project focusing on ‘Woman in the construction industry, Challenges and future direction’ which is a great learning curve as she is studying from the front row and using first hand experiences for her project. What a super mum!

Upcoming work

The night works for Thursday 5th August is scheduled for the traffic signal upgrade at the SH20 interchange.

This work will be carried out between 9pm and 5am.

The following road closures will be in place so we can get this work completed

  • Puhinui Road off ramp
  • Roscommon Road to Puhinui Road.

Alternative access will be signposted and traffic will be detoured around the area. Please note that traffic from/to the Auckland Airport will be detoured via SH20A, George Bolt Memorial Drive and Tom Pierce Drive.

While we are working, temporary stop/go assistance will be set up on the night to manage traffic and some traffic lanes within the worksite will be reduced.

Please plan travel in advance and expect delays.

Orrs Road will be closed from Friday 6 August to Monday 9 August (subject to change) for pavement repairs.

Thank you for your ongoing patience while we complete this essential work.

Story

Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency and Auckland International Airport Limited are upgrading State Highway 20B for better and more reliable travel options with a new shared path and additional priority lanes between Pukaki Creek Bridge and State Highway 20.

This project will integrate with improved transport facilities within the airport precinct along SH20B and at the upgraded Puhinui Station Interchange.

The project is the first step of the Southwest Gateway programme to provide better public transport, walking and cycling facilities with safer and more efficient freight movements to, from and around Southwest Auckland.

Fulton Hogan undertakes this work on behalf of Waka Kotahi.

Key early improvements on State Highway 20B to be delivered by 2021 include:

  • A safe place for people to walk and ride bikes
  • Safety improvements including central median barrier protection, improved lighting and a reduced speed
  • Improved pavement, drainage and stormwater treatment
  • Two improved intersections at Campana Road and Manukau Memorial Gardens.

Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency works to create transport solutions for all New Zealanders – from helping new drivers earn their licences, to leading safety campaigns to investing in public transport, state highways and local roads.
