,Please join us for our RTC April Meeting this Monday, April 18, 2022 at 7pm ET at West Hartford Town Hall, 4th Floor, Room 400 Dear , I continue to be amazed by the spirit and energy of the Republicans in West Hartford lately. You refuse to be silenced and the recent attendance at the last meeting of the West Hartford Board of Education (BOE) was a perfect example. There were over 50 voters in attendance to speak in opposition to the Town's SEL, gender identity curriculum. I also know that there were many of you who emailed the BOE because you couldn't attend the meeting. Your emails were heard and clearly, the Democrats in town are nervous. It also helped when we made sure that the news stations from WFSB-TV Channel 3, NBC Connecticut News Channel 30 and Fox-61 were all present and covered the meeting. It was a challenge for the Democrats to sweep things under the rug though they continue to try. It will be more important than ever for the voters to continue to show up to the Board of Education meetings and continue to discuss this subject. We need to have at least 5 - 10 voters speaking against the gender identity curriculum for the K - 3 grade level every week. We'll discuss our strategy at our meeting on Monday. Please attend so you can learn how you can help. But that's not all! Scott Zweig made some incredible progress on the high school names issue. Scott was able to get one of the five recognized Native American Tribes in Connecticut (the Schaghticoke Tribal Nation) to provide a resolution with consent to the respectful use of the Chieftains and Warriors high school names in West Hartford. This provides us with some important advantages. You can click on the buttons below to see a We-Ha.com article about the resolution as well as an Op-Ed by Scott Zweig to We-Ha.com. We had hoped that the Democrats on the BOE would be reasonable and provide an agenda item at the next BOE meeting to allow Chief Richard Velky of the Schaghticoke Tribal Nation to formally address the BOE on this matter. However, in true cowardly fashion, the BOE Chair, Dr. Lorna Thomas-Farquharson, refused to add this item to the agenda. This fight is far from over as we continue to gather signatures for the petition. We will discuss our next steps and strategy for this issue at the RTC meeting on Monday. Please attend on Monday if you'd like to sign the petition. And if that wasn't enough, we have the potential for another property tax increase in West Hartford. With the BOE requesting a 2.8% increase in their budget, the Town Council will now need to decide on how this will affect the taxpayers. Finally, we'll discuss the upcoming GOP State Convention, our delegates and candidates for office in the state. We also will discuss a Candidate Exploratory Subcommittee as we will be searching for local candidates for State House and Senate offices with the upcoming elections in November. With everything going on your involvement is needed now more than ever. Therefore, you are cordially invited to attend our West Hartford Republican Town Committee meeting for April. The meeting will be held this Monday, April 18, at 7pm ET. Please click on the buttons below to see the latest agenda for our meeting along with our meeting minutes from our March meeting.
