Young koalas embark on new adventures!

It's that time of year again when our vulnerable koala joeys bravely set off on their own for the very first time.

They're leaving the safety of their mums and venturing out into the world, searching for a place to call home.

Imagine their excitement, curiosity and trepidation.

These dispersing koalas might be mistaken for lost joeys because they're often quite small. If they're about the size of a football or even bigger, they're usually doing just fine on their new, independent journey.

Here are five ways you can help these young koalas:

  1.  Keep your distance and allow them to move freely, as long as they are not in immediate danger.
  2. Slow down when driving and be aware of wildlife moving near roads at dawn and dusk.
  3. Create a koala-friendly backyard by putting a wooden pole against your fence so they can continue on through and a pool escape so they can climb out if they fall in.
  4. Walk your dog on a lead and keep them inside at night.
  5. Call the Redlands 24hr Wildlife Rescue Service if you see a sick or injured koala, ph 3833 4031.

Keep an eye on our young koalas by submitting your sightings at Redlands Coast Koala Watch.

Together, we can help young koalas as they bravely explore Redlands Coast.
