First ever director of Indigenous Planetary Health seeks to merge two disparate worlds

As director of Indigenous Planetary Health at Schulich Medicine & Dentistry, Nicole Redvers brings with her a new field of study focused on Indigenous health and the translation of Indigenous knowledge, methodology and perspectives into Western medicine.

Western hosts national conference to tap space as asset

This week, Western played host to Space as a National Asset for Canada 2022, a pan-Canadian conference showcasing the value of space technologies for Earth applications and Canadian ambitions for space.

Research shows traffic-related air pollution linked to increased risk of dementia

Higher exposure to a certain type of traffic-related air pollution may be linked to an increased risk of dementia, according to a meta-analysis by Schulich Medicine & Dentistry researchers.

Faculty of Health Sciences professor Janis Oram Cardy has been appointed acting associate vice-president (research). She has been associate dean (research) for the Faculty of Health Sciences since 2019 and served as acting dean in early 2022.

Virtual event with author Joshua Whitehead

Joshua Whitehead is a Two-Spirit, Oji-nêhiyaw member of Peguis First Nation (Treaty 1). He is currently a lecturer and Killam scholar at the University of Calgary where he studies Indigenous literatures and cultures with a focus on gender and sexuality. Whitehead’s latest book Making Love with the Land explores the intersections of Indigeneity, queerness and mental health through a nêhiyaw lens. Registration required.

Fishel Goldig: Survivor Testimony (Virtual)

Fishel Goldig survived the Holocaust as a six-year-old boy and now spends his time sharing his story to thousands of people every year. Registration required.

Our earth is changing. Can we understand, mitigate and live with those changes? Researchers from a variety of disciplines come together to discuss climate change. Presented by Western Research and Wordsfest, the one-hour panel discussion followed by a 30-minute Q&A takes place at University College, Conron Hall. Register today.
