Events This WeekTe Wiki o te Reo Māori, or Māori Language Week, is an annual campaign led by Te Taura Whiri promoting te reo as New Zealand’s language and a language for all New Zealanders. Every year we encourage whānau from across Aotearoa, New Zealand, including organisations, schools, workplaces and homes, to give te reo Māori a go. 5th-15th September - Kupu Tahi - Share your favourite kupu and what it means to you in a short video and tag @whakatanelibrary on Facebook or @whakatane.libraries on Instagram. We’ll create a montage of the community’s favourite kupu and share this on screen at the library during Te Wiki o te Reo Māori for everyone to enjoy and learn from. 15th September 12.30pm - Flashmob Waiata - Cap off Te Wiki o te Reo Māori by coming together to share a waiata written in celebration of this beautiful taonga. Friday 8th September 7-9.30pm - Whakatāne Kiwi Trust Fundraiser - Kōrero for Kiwi Grab a friend or five and join us for an evening of awe-inspiring storytelling at the Whakatāne Kiwi Trust annual fundraiser “Kōrero for Kiwi”! We will have nine presenters to delight, inspire and entertain you - all with different topics, passions, and stories to share. Rest assured there will be something for everyone! Saturday 9th September 10am-12pm - Revved Up Motorcycle Event Ride down to Underwood and Wilkins Motorcycles and join other riders and the Eastern Bay Road Safety Programme for an entertaining morning with free coffee, sausage sizzle, live demonstrations and a skills race led by PassMasters. All those attending will have the opportunity to sign up for a free ‘Ride Forever’ programme, an initiative supported by ACC and win spot prizes from our three local motorcycle businesses, Underwood and Wilkins, Tony Rees Motorcycles and Whakatāne Motorcycles Monday 11th September- Trident High School Year 8 Open Day & Evening Nau Mai, Haere Mai! Trident High School warmly invites Year 8 students and whānau to our 2023 Open Day and Evening. We look forward to meeting all Year 8 students and their whānau to show them what makes Trident High School special. Wednesday 13th September 12.30pm & 3.30pm - Te Pātaka Kōrero Heritage Gallery Tours Discover the special objects and taonga on display in the heritage gallery at Te Kōputu, and help keep their kōrero alive. Join museum staff for a free 30min guided tour of Te Pātaka Kōrero Heritage Gallery at 'Te Kōputu a te Whanga a Toi' and hear fascinating stories about the special objects on display. Tours are held 12.30-1pm and 3.30-4pm on the second Wednesday of each month. There's no need to book, just show up!
