You will also get insight into the tauira exhibiton led by Ngāti Toa tā moko artist and kōwhaiwhai tutor Vianney Parata. Finally, the pānui will finish off with the upcoming Tāniko Classes and a visit from the Wellington Community Fund to Hongoeka. Mauri Ora! Waka Wānanga Last year we ended our series of waka wānanga led by Ngāti Toa mātanga whakairo Tahua Solomon, Hermann Salzmann and supported by Wiremu Grace and tauira of Ngāti Toa whakairo class. Watch where this journey began. Tauira Toi Exhibition The tauira of the taonga tuku iho classes were able to showcase the fruits of their learnings in an end of year art exhibition at Te Rūnanga o Toa Rangatira AGM, held at Takapūwāhia marae. Curated by tā moko artist and kōwhaiwhai tutor Vianney Parata who was supported by a working group of tauira that experienced what it takes to deliver an exhibition, many of which was their first time showing. Our budding artists in whakairo, tukutuku and kōwhaiwhai proudly showcased their mahi toi for their whānau and iwi to see. Tāniko Classes Begin Adding to the collection of toi classes for Ngāti Toa iwi is Tāniko weaving tutored by Kura Hippolite. This class will be delivered on Wednesday nights from 6th March to June at the Whitireia campus. Spaces are limited, if you are a beginner and are committed to attending each email toi@ngatitoa.iwi.nz to register your interest. Whakairo, Tukutuku, and Kōwhaiwhai are also starting back in the first week of March, classes are full for these programmes. Wellington Community Fund visit Hongoeka Trustees and staff of Wellington Community Fund were hosted at Hongoeka marae last week where Hongoeka whānau, Kohai Grace and our Rūnanga cultural team shared the various kaupapa and outcomes that the trust have supported over the recent years. It was an opportunity to share the story of the taonga and hear local history of the area. We look forward to continuing the hononga as we progress plans for this year and thank the organisation for their continued tautoko.
