A new Founders Program through Morrissette Entrepreneurship offers 10 students per year access to education, mentorship, a tuition bursary valued at $20,000 across three years, and the opportunity to grow their entrepreneurial network and leadership.

Abygail Montague, along with fellow first-year students, Megan Matlock and Stephanie Urena Rodriguez, was selected from 6,000 applicants to receive the prestigious four-year Loran scholarship recognizing strength of character, commitment to service and entrepreneurial spirit. Montague recently created an online platform celebrate and support Black entrepreneurs.

Project to study climate effects on electric vehicle energy use

A new joint project between the Faculty of Engineering and Fanshawe’s Centre for Research and Innovation, in collaboration with London Hydro, is investigating household energy consumption for electric vehicles and how weather factors affect energy use when recharging the vehicles.

Mitigating for angle, ‘torque’ of impact key to safer hockey helmets: study

A team led by Canada Research Chair Haojie Mao has discovered hockey helmets are good at mitigating direct hits but could be improved to withstand indirect blows. And now they're working with Bauer Hockey on future helmet designs.

Coffee Day for United Way
For every large and extra-large coffee or hot chocolate or hot beverage purchased across campus on Thursday, Nov. 18, Hospitality Services will donate 25 cents to support the United Way of Elgin Middlesex.

The campus community is being advised that Alert Ready – Canada’s emergency alerting system – will be tested across Canada on Wednesday, Nov. 17, specifically at 12:55 p.m. in Ontario. For more information about Alert WesternU and how to customize your account visit: alert.westernu.ca.

Landscape Services team prepares for upcoming winter season
Earlier this week, Western's landscape services team rolled out a full complement of snow removal vehicles for their third annual mock snow event in preparation for the winter ahead.

Discovery Western virtual winter girls club
Registration is open with select spots available for Engineering's virtual winter girls club for students in grades 3 to 8. This program runs for seven weeks and includes an activity kit for each participant.

Western's flu immunization clinic in the Graphic Services building has been extended to Friday, Nov. 19 for Western students and employees. No appointments required.

Associate vice-president of equity, diversity and inclusion Opiyo Oloya will share insights from his own experience as a newcomer to Canada and through his conversations with international students and student leaders on campus. This presentation will be followed by a discussion on how we can make our campus community more inclusive and improve the sense of belonging for international students.

Climate change has and will continue to impact livelihoods and the health of people. Concerted, coordinated and collaborative efforts are needed to reverse the current trend of a rapidly warming global climate. Join the Africa Institute to hear African and Canadian experts discuss how Africa is mitigating the changing climate conditions.

From resistance to reconciliation

This Joanne Goodman lecture series featuring Bill Waiser, distinguished professor emeritus at the University of Saskatchewan and author of more than a dozen books, will examine the history of Indigenous/non-Indigenous relations in Saskatchewan from the late nineteenth century to the present through the life and legacy of Almighty Voice.
