Not sure who has been busier - The Cape Town Club and Committee or the members of Parliament over the last few weeks.

The networking breakfast held in May at Garden Court Victoria Junction was truly special. We showcased an array of Skål Cape Town memorabilia for our members and guests, including club yearbooks, AISC meeting minutes, banners, pennants, and more.

Initially, our beautiful banners were set for retirement, but due to numerous requests from Cape Town members and the Committee, we've decided to keep them on display more often. Please take a moment to appreciate them at our events, as they represent our rich history and continuous dedication.

At the same Networking even, we were honoured to have Wendy Broome, President of Skål Harare, attend the event and address our members. A delightful shakeup at the event saw attendees moving around tables marked with different Skål Club pennants, leading to fantastic networking and business amongst friends!

June Networking Event at D'Aria

In June, we were excited to host Mr. Andres Hayes, the Skål International Director for Region 1 (U.S.A), candidate for Vice President 2025/President Elect 2026, and President and CEO of Airtifae Group, Washington DC. He was our special guest and speaker. The Cape Town Club proudly presented Andres with one of the Platinum Jubilee Cape Town pins, sponsored by the Diamond Works.

Past President's Lunch 2024

In keeping with tradition, the Cape Town Club hosted the annual Past President’s Lunch for 2024. This year featured a slightly different format as it was held at a guest house, Atlantic Beach, with a unique twist: the Cape Town President and a Committee member cooked for the Past Presidents.

A very special thank you to Colleen Rens as the venue host, Karin-Anne Schmidt for the spectacular menu and food, and Membre d’Honneur, Carol Bayne for arranging the event. As an extra special highlight, the guest speaker was none other than Cape Town’s National Treasure – Lavonne Wittmann.

We had 14 Past Presidents in attendance, representing six of the seven SA Clubs, including one Past World President, three Membres d’Honneur, four Past National Presidents, and four Past International Skål Councillors. Notably, we also had one current President… in the kitchen. At the risk of having comments from our Deputy Regional Director – the President in the Kitchen had regalia on throughout the event – as is protocol. 😊

The menu and theme were a delightful South African/Scottish fusion—thankfully, no haggis on the menu.

Challenge Accepted

We have accepted a challenge to have at least 50 South Africans at the Congres in Izmir 2024. I don’t think anyone can fully understand the magnitude and reach of the Skål International network until you have attended an International Congress.
