Akoranga to Constellation Drive: Have your say

Feedback is now open on a proposed walking and cycling section of the Northern Pathway from Akoranga to Constellation Drive.

To ensure that we are creating a pathway that will serve you and future generations, we would like to know how you want to use this section of the Northern Pathway, the destinations you want to reach and what would make the path attractive for you to use. We would also like you to share your local knowledge, so please let us know if there is anything else you think we should be considering.

The seven-kilometre shared path will connect to the section between Westhaven and Akoranga across the Waitematā Harbour as well as the Constellation Drive and Albany section which is already under construction as part of the Northern Corridor Improvements project.

Once completed, the Northern Pathway will extend from Central Auckland to Albany, providing better access and greater choice for people to adopt new ways of moving around the city.

COVID-19 Update
Our consultation processes usually provide opportunities for face-to-face engagement. With the current level of COVID-19 restrictions, we continue to take a careful approach to our public engagement and will provide online opportunities only for your feedback.

We are continuing to progress this project as infrastructure will play a critical role in the economic recovery of New Zealand.

What else is happening with Northern Pathway?

A recent consultation for the Westhaven to Akoranga section of Northern Pathway ran from 30 March until 19 April 2020.

Thank you to everyone who gave their feedback. We received 1,198 submissions which is nearly three times the number of submissions from the project’s last public consultation in August/September 2019. The survey responses were 78% in support of the project and more information can be read in our latest media release.

We are currently reviewing all feedback and will provide our responses in a feedback report which will be shared with you and available on our project webpage. We are also finalising and documenting the pathway design before we lodge Notices of Requirement and resource consent applications in mid-2020.

Subject to approvals, construction is expected to begin in 2021 and take around two and a half years.
