Bolstering support for Sea Country

Thanks to a recent Australian Government funding announcement, the Reef Authority is proud to be expanding the already successful Traditional Use of Marine Resources Agreements (TUMRA) and Sea Country Values Mapping projects.

With 10 already accredited TUMRAs along the length of the Great Barrier Reef, this funding will expand the program into new regions and continue to strengthen existing agreements and mapping projects.

Cairns guide released

We have released a new guide to help operators understand and manage commercial activities in the Cairns area. The guide provides operators with helpful information on zoning, special management areas, permits, visiting island national parks, sewage, pests, safety, incident reporting and more.

Starfish panel now open

The Reef Authority is seeking submissions via AusTender to establish a panel of suppliers to deliver
crown-of-thorns starfish control, including reef surveillance and Sea Country activities across the Great Barrier Reef. Full details via AusTender.

Get the popcorn ready

Our field management team recently spent a week on the water filming an episode for the upcoming season of Fishing Australia.

The episode will provide a behind-the-scenes look into our on-water operations and how we work with partner agencies, including the Queensland Government and Queensland Boating and Fisheries Patrol.

Soaking up social science 

The 3rd Annual Social Science Symposium was held in Cairns last month, providing a platform to network and collaborate with stakeholders in the social science field. The sentiment echoed the importance of using social science hand in glove with marine science to manage and protect the Great Barrier Reef.
