Night work on QEII Drive near the new roundabouts

On Sunday, Tuesday and Wednesday nights (8, 10 and 11 November), we will be sealing some remaining sections of QEII Drive between Philpotts Road and Grimseys Road.

We will be milling and laying asphalt, this work (especially the milling machine) can be noisy. There is only a small amount of milling each night and we will do this first to reduce disruption. Paving will then continue until around 5am.

Thank you for your on-going patience and cooperation.

Sealing on SH1 requires lane reductions and ramp closures

Sealing on SH1 continues at night with SH1 traffic near the Waimakariri Bridge reduced to one lane in each direction overnight. To enable this work, on and off-ramps in this area need to close.

Our programme has changed a little, with some additional work being added in for the week of 16 November. This will change traffic management as follows.

- Chaneys off-ramp will remain close
- Tram Road on-ramp will close overnight
- Tram Road off-ramp will close at night next week, be open from 16 November, and then fully close for two weeks from Sunday night 22 November.

To use Tram Road off-ramp (when it is open) be in the left-hand lane from before the Waimakariri Bridge.

We will also be moving some barriers around and traffic lanes will be slightly different, so take care.

A 50km/h speed limit will be in place during the work, this will reduce to a 30km/h speed limit when the chip seal surface is new and needs to bed in. Motorcycle riders please be aware of loose gravel.

Please expect delays around the ramp areas during peak hours. Diversions will be in place. This work should not create any significant delay overnight when the work is underway. This work is weather dependent so may take longer than planned.

Night work - chip sealing the new motorway QEII to Radcliffe

Over the next two weeks, we may need to work some night shifts to chip seal the new motorway alignment between QEII Drive and Radcliffe Road.

The team and machinery we use to chip seal are in very high demand and we are sharing them with the Southern Motorway. We have been given the okay to use them at night if they get cancelled over on the Southern Motorway. Unfortunately, this doesn't allow time for me to let you know on which nights this will happen.

This work can be loud with trucks and rollers moving up and down the alignment.

I am sorry for this possible disturbance and that I can't give you more exact information.

Screen test

No, we haven't been discovered by Hollywood.

Over the next while we will be testing the new screens (VMS signs) on the new gantries.

The screens will be used for travel time information and motorway updates.

Most popular question - When will you be finished?

The new CNC motorway is on track to be completed in mid-December this year.

And the cycle path will open at the same time.
