We are working through replacement options

Story
Story

We are working on a business case looking at replacement options for the Pepe Stream Bridge.
This is expected to be complete by the end of 2021.

Once a preferred option is known, additional funding
will have to be approved before we can move into
the design and then construction phases. We are
committed to keeping the community well informed
as we make progress.

Here's where we are at with the process...

Survey response and findings

Thanks to everyone who took part in the recent survey on the Pepe Stream Bridge replacement. We really appreciate the level of community interest and the number of responses we received, with over 900 people taking part!

Reading through the feedback about the existing bridge and footpath, there were common themes around signage, traffic congestion and queuing, and the safety of people walking and cycling.

Respondents were overwhelmingly in favour of making the bridge two lanes, with many suggesting a wider bridge design to cater to over-sized vehicles and increased traffic, and a safe, separate path for pedestrians and cyclists.

It was interesting to learn how people use the bridge – with a majority of respondents crossing between 2 – 7 times a week during the daytime in a car. The need for this new bridge was highlighted, with people rating it 4 out of 10 in terms of safety for pedestrians and cyclists, and 3 out of 10 as a suitable accessway across Pepe Stream.

We are taking all of this feedback into consideration and it will help us form a shortlist that we will share with you at our upcoming open day.

Understanding what is important to locals and people who use the bridge regularly will help us to narrow down our replacement options. We hope to have a preferred option for you to look at by the end of this year.
