Wide centrelines to be installed on SH3 at Waitara
Further work to make State Highway 3(SH3) between Waitara and Bell Block safer gets underway soon, with safety improvements between Bayly Street and Raleigh Street at Waitara.
Following resealing this week, the southbound passing lane at Brixton Hill will be removed and new wide centrelines will be marked between Bayly Street and Raleigh Street at Waitara.
The new wide centrelines will help keep traffic apart, reducing the risk of head-on crashes. New rumble strips will also be installed.
Plans for roundabouts at the intersections of De Havilland Drive/Airport Drive, SH3A (Mountain Road), Princess Street and Waitara Road are being progressed.
These initial safety improvements will help prevent crashes in the interim and prepare the road for sections of median barrier to be installed once the roundabouts are built.
The work will be done between the hours of 6pm and 7am to help reduce disruption to traffic and is expected to take up to nine days to complete.
This project is part of delivering to New Zealand’s Road Safety Strategy, Road to Zero 2020 – 2030, which aims to reduce the number of people killed or seriously injured on our roads by 40 percent over the next decade.
