Moore was joined by other U.S. Department of Justice officials, sheriffs, jail leaders, association partners, and advocates from across the country to launch the new Jails and Justice Support Center (JJSC). The JJSC assists jails in creating safe, humane, and effective environments for incarcerated individuals, staff members, and visitors. The mission of the JJSC is to coordinate and facilitate direct delivery of innovative and industry-leading services and support focusing on justice and correctional policy, operational practices, and professional development for America's jails. The JJRC website features a toolkit, a library of resources, a means to request technical assistance, and more. FBI Podcast The Importance of Partner Engagement Hosted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), this podcast features Robert J. Contee III, assistant director of the FBI’s Office of Partner Engagement, who will discuss the importance of partnerships and how the FBI fosters and supports its partnerships at every level of government. The podcast will also discuss Assistant Director Contee’s career in law enforcement, his approach to building good working relationships, and why law enforcement partnerships are vital to our communities. Webinar Engaging and Leveraging Community-Based Organizations in Your Crisis System Funded by the Bureau of Justice Assistance and hosted by the Council of State Governments Justice Center, this webinar will discuss how community-based organizations can enhance existing crisis systems by providing services, support, and direct people in crisis. After a brief introduction from the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) to kick off this webinar, affiliates from NAMI St. Tammany and NAMI Ohio will share their experiences partnering with justice and behavioral health systems to enhance community response to crisis. In addition, a representative from the Mental Health & Addiction Association of Oregon will share the association’s success with Pathway Home, a peer-delivered program providing assessment, case management, peer support services, access to housing, and job training and credential attainment, both before and after release from incarceration. When: Tuesday, December 19, 2023 NW3C Webinar New Approaches to IoT Crime Scene Analysis Funded by the Bureau of Justice Assistance and hosted by the National White Collar Crime Center (NW3C), this webinar will explore the ever-expanding importance of Internet of Things (IoT) crime scenes and the potential evidence generated by IoT and wearable devices. The session will include real-world examples showcasing IoT crime scene evidence and exhibits, illustrating how these interconnected devices can play a pivotal role in solving cases. The importance of lawful access to IoT devices, including appropriate legal processes and proper pre-planning considerations for IoT evidence searches, and some security vulnerabilities of select wearable devices will also be discussed. By the end of this webinar, participants will have a deeper understanding of the evolving landscape of digital evidence and the unique challenges and opportunities presented by IoT and wearable technology in modern criminal investigations. When: Tuesday, December 12, 2023 Toolkit Customized Offerings for Mitigating and Preventing Agency-Specific Stress (COMPASS) Toolkit—A Guide to Data Collection and Program Implementation for Supporting Healthy Organizations This new report published by the Bureau of Justice Assistance’s Comprehensive Opioid, Stimulant, and Substance Use Program (COSSUP) discusses the high levels of stress and fatigue that law enforcement officers undergo together. Law enforcement agencies often struggle to identify which stressors are impacting officers the most so they can prioritize their wellness efforts. With funding from the COPS Office, RTI International worked with the Green Bay (Wisconsin) and Redlands (California) Police Departments to develop the Customized Offerings for Mitigating and Preventing Agency-Specific Stress (COMPASS) Toolkit, a six-step process that defines staff needs and causes of stress, identifies actionable areas for improvements, guides program implementation, and assesses the effectiveness of the efforts.
