Funding secured for design of safety improvements between New Plymouth and Egmont Village
We’re pleased to announce that funding has now been secured to design safety improvements on State Highway 3 (SH3) between New Plymouth and Egmont Village.
Since completing the SH3 New Plymouth to Hāwera business case in 2018, Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency has been looking to obtain funding for the recommended safety improvements, prioritising the stretch between New Plymouth and Egmont Village due to the high safety risk in this area.
Proposed improvements include a rural roundabout at the Mangorei Rd/SH3 intersection, median barrier and intersection speed zones at Junction Street. The speed limit will also be reviewed on this section of highway.
While funding has only been secured for design at this stage, enabling the project team to get the project designs underway now will put us in a good position to apply for construction funding in the next National Land Transport Programme (NLTP).
