Lodgement of statutory approval applications and next stepsNZTA is in the process of lodging the Notices of Requirement to designate the project corridor and other statutory approval applications for the project with the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA). The application material will be available on the fast-track website early in the new year. The EPA will then appoint an independent panel to consider the applications. We anticipate the panel will be appointed in March/April 2026. Exact timing will be determined by the EPA and the project team will provide regular progress updates via this newsletter. A high-level overview of the process is available on the project website. |

Station namesOne of our iwi partners, Te Kawerau ā Maki, have kindly gifted station names for our western stations. The gifted names reference significant awa (rivers) and landmarks in the area. The English and Te Reo names will be used together. Brigham Creek Rarawaru the main awa (river) flowing to the north of central Whenuapai Westgate Te Waiarohia the nearby awa (river) Royal Road Mānutewhau the nearby awa (river) and general area Lincoln Road Wai o Pareira the awa (river) Te Atatu Ōrangihina the name of Te Atatū, particularly the station vicinity Te Kawerau ā Maki also gifted the project name ‘Te Ara Hauāuru’ , which references the wind that blows from the west, a powerful force and story for the iwi. The west wind carries the voice and vision of the community of the west, and the path of connection between these communities and Tāmaki Makaurau. We’ve also updated our recent project video to include our gifted station names. |
