Hello Parents and Friends,

We are approaching the middle of the semester, which means spring break is right around the corner (March 9-13). Students have been working hard so far, and spring break is a well-deserved time to recharge and/or catch up on studies. Now is a great time to check in with what they hope for and need during that time.

Students will also start preparing for advising and registration at the end of the month. Please encourage your students to check the Advising page under the Student tab of my.tlu.edu to confirm their faculty advisor and registration day and time. All students are required to meet with their faculty advisor to be granted permission to register for classes.

  • Faculty Advising Week: April 6- April 10
    • Larger academic departments may start earlier.
  • Registration Week: April 13-17 (Register for May, summer, and fall terms)
    • Registration day and time are determined by the number of earned credit hours.

While advising sessions will certainly cover which classes to take next, encourage your students to talk with their faculty advisor about career plans, internships, or research opportunities, and to ask about graduate school, if that is part of their future.

Best wishes for a wonderful month, and please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions or concerns at parents@tlu.edu.

March - Disability Awareness Month

TLU celebrates Disability Awareness Month each March, and we invite everyone to celebrate with us. Texas Parasport will join us on March 21 for the 3rd annual Wheelchair Exhibition Race during the track meet at Bulldog Stadium. From 10 to 11 a.m., our guest athletes will show off their speed in adaptive equipment. Free food for students during that time.

March 26 at 6 p.m., the Accessibility Committee will host a virtual panel discussion on Self-Advocacy in Medicine. We’ll hear from people inside and outside of the medical system, all with their own lived experiences. It’s a complex system, and we hope attendees leave feeling more empowered.

Collaborative Learning Assistance

TLU provides Collaborative Learning Assistance (CLA), also known as peer tutoring, in subjects such as Math, Computer Science, Physics, and Spanish. Additionally, Supplemental Instruction (SI) is available for Biology, Chemistry, and College Algebra. If your student is enrolled in a class that offers CLA or SI, it's advisable to encourage them to attend sessions now rather than waiting until they encounter difficulties.

CLA and SI schedules are posted on the Student Success and Retention page on MyTLU under the Student Affairs tab. Students can also make an appointment with an Academic Peer Counselor, who can assist with study strategies, motivation, and time management.

For more information, please email academicsupport@tlu.edu or call 830-372-6305.

Career Development Opportunities

On March 5th, we hosted the Spring Career Fair, welcoming 17 employers to our campus to meet with your students!

Later this month, the department will be having a Resume Pop Up on March 26th in the ASC from 11 a.m. -1 p.m. This event allows students to come to the table to meet with the Director of Career Development and get quick feedback on their resume.

For NB and Houston Campuses: If you need any assistance with resume building, cover letter, mock interviews, etc., please do not hesitate to contact Kelsey Cruz, Director of Career Development at krcruz@tlu.edu.

March 19: Spillin' The TEAS!

Registration & Advising

It’s almost time to plan for the upcoming semesters! Faculty advising at TLU will take place April 6–10, followed by registration from April 13–17.

Starting March 23, students can view both the summer and fall schedules to begin planning their courses. Summer courses are offered online, making it easy for your student to study from wherever they are this summer. Be sure to check with financial aid to see if any remaining funds can be applied toward summer classes.

If a student thinks they need to withdraw from a course, they may do so until April 6. To withdraw, they should visit the Registration and Records Office to obtain a schedule change form.

Don’t miss this important time to plan, advise, and register for a successful semester at TLU!
