Homeschooling the Gifted: What Do We Know from the Australian, Chilean, and US Context?

Homeschooling for gifted students in particular has little research, and the findings from the few studies that are available suggest that these families start homeschooling for different reasons compared to the general homeschool population. While research on homeschooling gifted students from the USA dominates, not much is heard about homeschooling research in Australia and even less is evident from the Chilean homeschooling experience. In this scenario, more research is needed about gifted homeschooling and the inner experiences these families and children face.

“Education cannot cease”: the experiences of parents of primary age children (age 4-11) in Northern Ireland during school closures due to COVID-19

These cases raise serious questions about the stereotypes that influence current practices in special education.

Using Survey Data Sets to Study Homeschooling

This chapter describes survey data available for studying homeschooling. The focus is principally on nationally representative cross-sections of U.S. schoolchildren, especially the National Household Education Survey. Homeschooling Sees an Uptick During Pandemic

Parents have various reasons for homeschooling their children, but it seems the pandemic caused a big shift for some school divisions. As of March of this year, 11% of U.S. households were homeschooling their children, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. Just six months before — in September 2020 — the percentage was 5.4%. Read more>>>
