Seafood Export Program Summary Report

The Department of Agriculture, Water, and the Environment (DAWE) has published a summary report of the Seafood Export Program. The report contains information about Australia’s seafood export profile over the first four months of this year. Read the summary on the STAG website here.

 
 

Vibrio Science Day: 15 June

ASQAAC and SafeFish are hosting Vibrio Science Day to share current research, identify knowledge gaps and link researchers, regulators and industry together to create a better future.

The event is free and will be held in Adelaide at West Beach on Wednesday 15 June. Due to COVID-19 there are limited tickets to attend in person, but the event will be streamed and recorded. Find out more and register to attend here.
 

 

India: Updated label requirements for non-vegetarian prepackaged food

DAWE advises India’s Food Safety Standards Authority has updated labelling requirements for all non-vegetarian pre-packaged food exported to India.  This includes pre-packaged fish and fish products. These must now be identified with a special symbol, which can be viewed on the the DAWE website here.
 

European Union: Paperless trade eCert commences

Export certificates for fish and fish products exported to the EU are now being issued via electronic certificate (eCert) to the EU Trade Control and Export System (TRACES-NT). The system commenced on 31 May and replaces printed health certificates previously required to export these products to the EU.

IFAM seafood industry briefing: 23 June

A quick reminder that the final International Freight Assistance Mechanism (IFAM) seafood briefing will be held on Thursday June 23 at 2:00 – 3:00pm (AEST). Register on the website here.

The Fish Names Committee has issued a communique following their meeting in FRDC’s offices in Canberra on 1 June 2022 for FNC 41. Read the communique here.
 

Vietnam: Seafood exports to EU benefiting from trade agreement

Vietnam Plus reports that the nation’s seafood exports to the EU have been growing quickly in 2022: ‘hitting 422 million USD in the first four months, up 47.3 percent, according to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers.’ Read more here.

The EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement entered into force in 2020, and included substantial phased tariff reductions for Vietnamese seafood products sold to EU markets. Australia is currently negotiating a similar agreement with the EU.
 

South Korea: No relaxation of Fukushima seafood import ban

According to Yonhap, “South Korea's oceans minister said Wednesday that his country will not lift a ban on imports of seafood from Japan's Fukushima area for the sake of winning Japan's support for the country's push to join… the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership.”

IFAM update

The IFAM flight schedules have been updated with the latest details on IFAM-supported flights.

Recent changes to outbound flights include: 

- New day for Qantas Charter flight from Brisbane, Cairns to Hong Kong 
- New date for Qantas block flight from Brisbane to Los Angeles
- New date for Air New Zealand charter flight from Melbourne  to Los Angeles
