Convoys cancelled tonight

State Highway 2 Waioweka Gorge update

Today’s 5pm and 7pm convoys through the Waioweka Gorge have been cancelled. The road is closed due to heavy rainfall and the risk of further deterioration of slip sites. The road condition will be assessed tomorrow morning and there may be further changes to convoy schedules. Keep an eye on NZTA social media for updates.

Public convoys for freight and essential public travel earlier this week – since then 17 convoys have taken place since, with 449 vehicles in total travelling the route as of this morning.

Weather is being monitored – heavy rain is forecast Friday 13 February to Monday 16 February. An orange rain warning will trigger a road closure. Crews are continuing to monitor the sites closely.
