A recent visit to the Queensland Central Highlands gave Cotton Australia CEO Adam Kay the chance to meet with local growers and industry leaders to hear firsthand about regional priorities and challenges. NSW Shadow Spokesperson for Water and Member for Cootamundra, Steph Cooke, was hosted by Cotton Australia to explore key irrigation issues in the Murrumbidgee Valley during a recent visit. Cotton Australia is continuing to advocate for fairer and more practical energy solutions for Queensland growers. CA recently took part in a number of important meetings—talking with Energy Queensland, joining the first Queensland Agriculture, Energy and Water Council, and working with the Queensland Farmers’ Federation to brief senior advisors to the Energy Minister. Cotton Australia’s myBMP team is working to demystify certification, giving unregistered growers a clear understanding of the program’s structure and how support is available to make certification achievable within a reasonable timeframe. Many growers are closer to compliance than they realise, often needing only small changes to get certified. Cotton Australia has announced the award finalists for the Cotton Seed Distributors Researcher of the Year Award, recognising the intelligence, commitment and passion that our researchers have for the Australian cotton industry. Key policies issues impacting growers were on top of the agenda for a recent dinner for the Queensland Opposition hosted by Chair of the Cotton Australia Board Nigel Burnett and CEO Adam Kay. More than 160 delegates gathered in Canberra for the 2025 PIEFA Conference, where Cotton Australia’s Jenny Hughes spoke about the need for stronger agricultural education, revealing that many students still don’t know cotton comes from a plant. The conference also featured a keynote from cotton grower and 101 Ag Pathways founder Grace Griffiths. Teach the Teacher events have wrapped up across key cotton-growing regions in New South Wales with the events held in the Macquarie Valley, coordinated by Cotton Australia Regional Manager Mel Swift.
