Please observe the 30 km/h speed limit at Coal Creek overbridge

Slow down on the Taylorville detour route

It is important all traffic using the detour, especially truck drivers of High Productivity Motor Vehicles (HPMVs), slow to 30 km/h when going over the Coal Creek overbridge.

The Omoto landslide site has closed a section of SH7 between Stillwater and Greymouth.

A signposted detour is in place on the north side of the Grey River, via Taylorville.
(See map below).

The Coal Creek overbridge, on State Highway 6, is one of many bridges identified as not able to support long-term loading from HPMVs up to their full weight limits. In addition to this, the bridge has been closely monitored for many years, due to some minor movement of the steep embankments.

Until the slip at Omoto can be repaired, we are allowing HPMVs to use Coal Creek overbridge provided the temporary speed limit of 30km/h is adhered to.

It is important drivers drop their speeds to avoid further damage to the bridge.

The bridge is being monitored while the detour is in place and design work is underway to ensure its ongoing safety.

We request co-operation from all drivers, particularly truck drivers.

In the meantime, we are working alongside KiwiRail to fully restore the Omoto link as soon as possible.
