Wellington region state highway roadworks

8 - 14 November 2025

Roadworks are weather dependent and may be postponed. 

State Highway 1

Transmission Gully, various locations

• Friday, 7 November, to Friday, 14 November. 24/7 (ongoing)
• Lane closures and 50 km/h temporary speed limit

• Wednesday, 12 November, and Thursday, 13 November. 9 pm to 4:30 am
• SH1 Transmission Gully CLOSED to northbound traffic between Linden and the State Highway 58 Pāuatahanui Interchange
• A southbound lane closure will also be in place
• Detour via State Highway 59 and State Highway 58

• Friday, 14 November to Monday, 17 November. 10 am Friday to 4.30 am Monday
• SH1 Transmission Gully CLOSED to southbound traffic between Mackays Interchange and Linden.
• There will also be a northbound lane closure in place.
• Detour via State Highway 59

Tawa, Takapu Road, Northbound On- Ramp CLOSED

• Tuesday night, 11.59pm – 4am
• Northbound on-ramp closure for streetlight pole replacement
• Northbound off-ramp closure for traffic counting wires installation

Johnsonville, between Southbound Off- Ramp to Southbound On-Ramp Road CLOSED

• Tuesday to Thursday night, 9pm – 4.30am
• Road closure for drainage work

Johnsonville, Southbound Off-Ramp CLOSED

• Monday night, 9pm – 4am
• Road closure for fibre work

Terrace Tunnel, Tunnel  CLOSED

• Monday night, 9pm – 4.30am
• Road closure for general maintenance

Mt Victoria Tunnel, Tunnel  CLOSED

• Tuesday night, 9pm – 4.30am
• Road closure for general maintenance

Manakau, Opposite Tatum Park

• Monday to Friday during the day, 9am - 4pm
• Altered lane layout for O2NL project

Manakau, between Gleeson Road and Atkins Road

• Thursday night, 11pm – 4am
• Stop/go traffic controls for wire rope repairs

Forest Lakes, between Atkins Road and Lawlors Road

• Sunday to Thursday night, 7pm – 5.30am
• Stop/go traffic controls for O2NL project

Old State Highway 1

Old SH1, Ōtaki, Taylors Road

• Monday to Thursday during the day, 7am – 4pm 
• Stop/go traffic controls for O2NL project

Old SH1, Ōtaki, Mill Road Roundabout, and between Mill Road Roundabout and Arthur Street 

• Saturday to Friday, ongoing day and night
• Altered lane layout for revocation project

Old SH1, Te Horo, Te Horo Beach Road

• Monday to Thursday during the day, 8.30am – 6pm 
• Stop/go traffic controls for installing small concrete pedestrian crossing over the Mangaone Stream culvert at Old SH1
