OUR INTERSCHOOLS STARS AND HORSES BEGIN THEIR JOURNEY ACROSS THE NULLABOR FOR NATIONALS!

Our WA superstars are ready to take the equestrian world by storm at next week’s Australian Interschool Championships being held in Sydney.

Preparations have reached fever pitch as our stars make their way over to New South Wales to represent our state with pride against the rest of the nation.

It was a very special week at the State Equestrian Centre, as some very precious cargo commenced the journey across the Nullarbor!

Thanks to drivers Glen and Chris, as well as Wayne and John at Combined Horse Transport – six of our team’s horses are now on the way to Sydney – travelling in comfort and style and in the best possible hands for the long journey!

Each horse is rested at professional spelling stations every four to five hours, and also has its own stainless steel feed and water which is refreshed at the same time.

The horses will have extended rest times and a chance to roam around in Adelaide and Melbourne, before arriving in Sydney on Friday evening.

The Australian Interschool Championships attracts more than 2,000 school based competitors, family, friends and supporters from right around the country.

Competitors, aged 5-18 years old, are required to qualify through from their respective State Interschool Championships. It is the largest equestrian grassroots program delivered nationally in Australia.

NOMINATIONS FOR THE EWA ANNUAL ELECTIONS CLOSING THIS WEEKEND

The EWA Annual Election will be held on Friday 4 November 2022, closing at 11.59pm.

Nominations for the Board of Directors and Sport Committees are now open. Please visit the Equestrian WA website to access the nomination forms

Nominations for the Board of Directors and Sport Committees will close on Sunday 25 September at 11.59pm.

EWA is calling on members for nominations for positions on the EWA Board of Directors and Sport Committees that are vacant at the end of 2022.

This is the second year that the elections will be held under the new Committee By-Laws and is a great opportunity for individuals to give back to our sport.

The Board of EWA and the Sport Committees have worked tirelessly to support our sport and the State Equestrian Centre during these challenging couple of years.

Our sport is built on the support of volunteers – many of you have the ability to make a positive difference to our sport. The Board and Sport Committees require leaders – if you are willing and able, please nominate or if you know of someone who has qualities that will provide leadership to our sport, please approach them and suggest they nominate.

New ideas are the lifeblood of good Committees – we need passionate people to provide leadership and ideas.

Whilst there are only a few positions on the various committees open to election, all Committees also have some opportunities for appointing committee members, so those who nominate and may not be successful in the election may be offered an appointed position – again these are not ‘closed shop’ positions – they are genuine positions to ensure there is a good balance of skills and representation on the committees. Nominations for appointed committee members will be called for following the elections.

We have a strong sport that continues to grow and develop, so please consider helping us to enable the sport to thrive in WA for generations to come.

RECOVERY AND PEAK PERFORMANCE A FOCUS FOR HIGH PERFORMANCE SEMINAR

Thanks to the Jumping WA Committee and High Performance representatives, a High Performance seminar presented by Ascot Equine Veterinarians will be held at the State Equestrian Centre next Friday 30 September at 6:30pm.

Lead by Dr Pete Harding, the seminar will focus on how we can keep our horses at their peak for competition by aiding recovery. Recovery is becoming increasingly important to the high performing athlete in a bid to reduce fatigue and enhance performance.

The SEC bar will be open for this event – and light food will be provided.

There is a small charge of $5 for the event. You must confirm your attendance for this event by registering on the Trybooking event page

SHOW HORSE LEADERBOARD SERIES UPDATED

The Show Horse Leaderboard has now been updated following the EWA Horse of the Year event a fortnight ago. Visit the Show Horse Leaderboard webpage to check our how our stars are tracking!

The results for Horse of the Year are also available via the same link above.

PREPARATIONS FOR ANOTHER BIG YEAR OF SHOW HORSE UNDERWAY

Preparations for 2023 are now also underway as we look ahead to another bumper year in the world of Show Horse.

This includes the planning for the 2023 EWA Show Horse High Performance Squads (State Squad and Youth Squad).

In 2023, riders who have ambitions to be selected for the Show Horse High Performance Squads will not only have to display strong and consistent on-horse performances at relevant events in the last 12 months, but they will also have to meet criteria surrounding participation in clinics and off-horse criteria.

There will be an emphasis on riders’ motivations for being part of the squads, their short and long-term goals in the sport, their training schedule and overall participation within the Show Horse community.

All eligible WA riders will be reviewed by the State Selection Panel with successful applicants notified shortly after. We encourage anyone who has the ambition and determination to be a part of the Show Horse HP State Squad or Youth Squad to apply.

For further information about the selection criteria, the squad selection process and to apply, please visit the Show Horse High Performance webpage.
