Term 3 - Week 2 - August 2022

Principal's Update

Kia ora Whanau,

I had great pleasure in listening to the assembly last Friday - Inaka led with the Parable of the Sower and reminded us all how important it is to reflect on God’s word, and to share God’s Word in our world. Of course, God’s word supports us in all our actions, thoughts and deeds, too! Next week our staff are booked into Ronald McDonald House to serve the community by cooking a meal, and I’m looking forward to the opportunity to ‘give a little’ of ourselves, beyond the school gates. I know many children from St. Peter’s get out into the community with acts of service and kindness - please let me know when this happens and we will be sure to celebrate it.

On Saturday night we had our first ever group of children from St. Peter’s School attended the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra as ambassadors! It was exciting to hear that the children recognised some of the teachers from the C.S.O. residential last term - building these connections supports a love of music learning that has longevity. There are a number of opportunities for our children to watch a concert with the C.S.O. this year so please let me know if you’ve a child who might enjoy this experience.

Year 4-8 Student council held their third meeting yesterday- this is a fruitful and positive group. Last term the full council (Y1-8 members) met to collect votes on new lunch-time sports activity gear. We’ve now talleyed both the ‘money in’ and the votes, and we are at the point of heading to buy some gear on the 15th August. Great student agency here.

Congratulations to those who took their First Holy Communion on Sunday. It was such a wonderful service. Sienna, Jewel, John and Theo - you represented us so well and you have made a very important step in your faith life. Congratulations. It was a pleasure to attend with Ms Byrne and Mrs Mitchell. Please send us some photos of your child’s special day!

PTA UPDATE

Welcome back to term 3, a special welcome to our new families from the PTA team. We are setting up parent buddies to help new parents to get used to how things work around here. New parents will get an email very soon welcoming them to our school.

Naked Baker Pies  - Your child should have bought a pie order form home from school. It you’d like an electronic version please email us and we’ll email you one. This is one of our biggest fundraisers, we’ve raised more each year and let’s see if we can break $3000 this year. Please post on your social media, leave a form in your staffroom, ask your friends and family. They are usually easy to sell, it would be great if EVERY family could support this.

School Disco -  Friday 16th September - because of the orange light settings we need to run things a little differently this time around. The staff and the PTA parents will run the disco. You will need to sign your child in and drop them off at 6pm. Pick up is at 7pm

Halswell Trains -  Sunday 25th September, meet from 12.45. Halswell Domain. Bring your own picnic, scooters and skateboards. The PTA are paying for rides on the Halswell Trains for St Peter’s families. Come and see a PTA member to get a lanyard to show that our rides are paid for.

Karma Keg - Saturday 29th October -  Held at Moon Under Water | Christchurch Craft Beer Pub, come along and help us enjoy a keg of beer and raise money for our school.

We are very busy planning an awesome end of year Quiz Night. The date has been confirmed and it will be held on Friday 4th November, so save the date, no excuses with this early announcement. It is being held at the Opawa Community Church Hall. This will be an epic night to let your hair down and have some fun. The theme of the night is ‘Movies’ and dress up will be encouraged. Tickets will be $15, ticket sales and further details to follow. We are looking for people to help organise this, please be generous in sharing your time. Many hands make light work….

Art Work - The children will be busy creating some stunning artwork next term which will be utilised for artwork products which can be ordered ready for Christmas.

Pastoral Support -  We have some families who are finding things a bit tricky financially at the moment and we have some new babies being born into our school families. We’re collecting grocery items and baby supplies for these families. Please send directly to the Principals office some grocery items and some items that are useful when there is a new baby in the house. Within the next 1-2 weeks would be wonderful. Thanks so much.

The next PTA meeting is on Monday 5th September 6:45pm, at school. It was wonderful having a couple of new faces join us at our last meeting, we would love to see some new families join the committee, so please come along.

Office Update

School Communications

When you are communicating with the school office PLEASE remember to state your child's first and LAST name.  We have several children with the same first names and by having both names helps efficiency.

Ezlunch families update

The Growth Collective Limited (known as Kindo, myKindo and ezlunch) has recently been classified as a Financial Services Provider. This means that there are additional responsibilities we must undertake, including compliance with the strict regulations imposed under the Anti-Money Laundering and Countering Financing of Terrorism Act (AML).

We have negotiated exemptions, which are awaiting approval, however there is a change that we need to bring to your attention.
ezlunch is no longer able to return funds to you in cash. We recommend you only top up the amount that you will be able to fully spend before finishing at your school.

We will be updating our Terms & Conditions on or around 31 July. Should you have more funds than you expect to use, you may wish to withdraw these before the terms change. You can do this easily on the 'my accounts' page.

Are there changes to ezlunch delivery service?

There are no changes to how ezlunch operates.

What about ezlunch refunds or account closures?
Refunds from ezlunch caterers can only be offered as an account credit. We would suggest encouraging families to manage their balances as cash withdrawals are no longer available even when closing their account.

Mana Ake

Here are the Mana Ake drop-in sessions available in term 3. Each session will begin at 2pm and take roughly 40 minutes.

If parents are unable to make these times, please feel free to contact me and I can arrange to provide them with support at another time.

RE Update

The Pope's Monthly Intentions for 2022

Each year, the Holy Father asks for our prayers for a specific intention each month. You are invited to answer the Holy Father's request and to join with many people worldwide in praying for this intention each month.

The Holy Father has entrusted these intentions in a particular way to the Pope's Worldwide Prayer Network, an organization that works to encourage Christians to respond to the Pope's appeal and to deepen their daily prayer.

You can find more information about the Pope's Worldwide Prayer Network on their website. (The Pope's Worldwide Prayer Network will also publish any urgent prayer intentions of the Holy Father as soon as they are received from the Holy See.)

 POPE'S WORLDWIDE PRAYER NETWORK

July-Elderly
We pray for the elderly, who represent the roots and memory of a people; may their experience and wisdom help young people to look towards the future with hope and responsibility.
August-Small Businesses
We pray for small and medium sized businesses; in the midst of economic and social crisis, may they find ways to continue operating, and serving their communities.
September-Abolition of the Death Penalty
We pray that the death penalty, which attacks the dignity of the human person, may belegally abolished in every country
