The first month of the fall term is behind us and students are settling into their routines and preparing for their midterm exams.

There are many upcoming events and deadlines to keep an eye out for, especially for students seeking employment, whether it be summer work, a co-op position, or a job to look forward to post-graduation. Support your Raven by familiarizing them with the upcoming career fair, recruitment events and professional development opportunities.

Monday, October 14, 2024: Statutory holiday. University closed.

Monday, October 21 to Friday, October 25, 2024: Fall break. No classes.

The Fall Career & Networking Fair Will Host 60+ Employers

The Fall Career & Networking Fair on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, is an opportunity for Carleton students who are job searching or exploring their career options to familiarize themselves with 60+ employers from a range of industries.

International Internships: Virtual and In-Person Options Available

International internships offer undergraduate students a chance to gain degree-related work experience, develop international connections and earn academic credit. Virtual options are available for winter and summer 2025, while in-person internships are available for summer 2025.

 

Three Reasons To Check The Career Services Job Board

The Career Services job board on mySuccess (log in to Carleton360 via the current students website) is a valuable tool for job-hunting students. Check out these three reasons as to why your student should visit the board regularly throughout the year.

How To… From 10 to 2 Drop-In Sessions

New from the Centre for Student Academic Support: How to… from 10 to 2 drop-in sessions are now available 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday. You student can visit a session to receive support with any learning or writing related tasks they may have.

 

A Safe and Respectful Panda Game 

The annual Panda game is this weekend. Encourage your student to keep themselves and our community safe. By practicing safer substance use and being a good neighbour, Panda can be a fun, safe and respectful celebration of university sport.

This weekend, law enforcement will be present in the community to ensure safe and lawful behaviour with strict enforcement and heavy fines. Students should keep noise/music low, keep gatherings under control and respect property in their neighbourhood.

 

Changing Program Elements Within the Same Degree

Does your student want to add a concentration or minor to their degree? Perhaps they want to try a different discipline all together? Undergraduate students must request changes via the Change of Program Elements page in Carleton Central (log into Carleton360 through the current students website).

If your student has any questions or concerns regarding changing their program elements, they can contact the Academic Advising Centre or the academic department responsible for the program they are interested in.

Changing Address Online

Your student can confirm Carleton has their correct address on file quickly and easily through Carleton Central (log in to Carleton360 via the current students website). Detailed instructions can be found on the Registrar’s Office website.

OSAP and Dropping Courses

Changes to your student’s registration can impact their Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP) funding. If your student is planning on dropping a course, they should email the Awards and Financial Aid Office.

 

Is Your Student Receiving Financial Aid?

If your student is receiving financial aid, they may be eligible for a bursary through the Awards and Financial Aid Office. There are bursaries for undergrads, first generation students, Indigenous students and many more.

Applications are available through Carleton Central (log in via the current students website), by clicking Awards and Financial Assistance then Undergraduate Online Application Forms. Apply by Thursday, October 31, 2024.

 

The Bookstore Offers Three Ways to Save on Textbooks

The Carleton Bookstore has made some changes to lower the costs of textbooks. Here’s three ways your student can save their hard-earned money this year:

  • Save up to 80 per cent when they rent their textbooks.
  • Purchase a used textbook to save up to 25 per cent.
  • The Bookstore price matches against Amazon.ca, Indigo and local competitors. Visit the Bookstore website for more details.

Cyber Security Month

Cyber Security Month is back this October! Your student has a chance to win a power bank or one of five Ravens swag packs while learning how to stay cyber secure. Learn how they can enter on the Information Technology Services website.
