Kenepuru Road from Onahau Road to the Heads, and its side roads remain restricted to residents, emergency and essential services. Work continues at several sites on Kenepuru Road between Onahau Road and The Heads. Daytime closures continue on Kenepuru Road, 20km from the start of the road from Onahau Road, where work on a retaining wall at the Water Tank Slip site is underway. Closures are planned on weekdays from 8am to 12pm and 12.30pm to 5pm, with a 3.30pm finish on Fridays. A closure is planned on Moetapu Bay Road, from 21 October from 9am to 3pm, with openings on the hour. Work to undertake a road retreat and drainage improvements on Driftwood Corner will be completed under the closure. Night closures are planned on Ronga Road approximately 10km from the start of the road, from 5 to 7 November, 6pm to 6am. Please see the road closure section for more information. Following this weekend’s wet weather a large under slip has developed on Awatere Valley Road, approximately 2km from Jordan Bridge. The road is open to one lane with a 30km temporary speed limit in place. The new bridge upstream of the current temporary bailey bridge on Waihopai Valley Road is progressing with the bridge superstructure taking form. Please ensure you keep to the reduced temporary speed limits when travelling through worksites to ensure the safety of our crews and road users. We thank you for your patience. Road closures |

Moetapu Bay Road - Driftwood corner Moetapu Bay Road, 1.6km from the start of the road will be closed to all traffic on weekdays from 9am to 3pm with hourly openings from Monday 21 October for two weeks. The closures are for the first stage of work for a road retreat, drainage improvements and road reinstatement. This work will be carried out under stop/go traffic management, outside of the closure times outlined above. Please expect delays. Ronga Road - Night Closures Ronga Road, 10km from the start of the road will be closed to all traffic for three nights between 6pm to 6am from Tuesday 5 to Thursday 7 November. These closures are for the installation of a box culvert at this site. Kenepuru Road - Water Tank slip Kenepuru Road from the Onahau Road intersection is closed to all traffic from 8am to 12pm and 12.30pm to 5pm Monday to Thursday. On Friday the closure will be in place from 8am to 12pm and 12.30pm to 3.30pm. On Friday 18 October there will be no road closure. Planned closures will resume from 12.30pm on Monday 21 October. The closures are for the construction of a 98m retaining wall at the Water Tank slip site, along with drainage upgrades and road reinstatement. The road closure timings will be reviewed after the first stage of works are completed. Kenepuru Road Restrictions |

Kenepuru Road from Onahau Road to the Heads, and its side roads, Moetapu Bay Road and Te Mahia Road continue to be restricted to residents, emergency and essential services. These roads have severe storm damage and entry into this section of Kenepuru Road is at resident and emergency or essential service drivers' discretion. Residents only are permitted to walk and cycle on roads which are restricted to residents. The following vehicle restrictions remain on Kenepuru Road from Linkwater to the Heads: Vehicle RestrictionsVehicles up to 12.6m in length, and 6 tonne in weight can travel on Kenepuru Road and the following side roads; Mahau Road, Torea Road and Moetapu Bay Road as far as Double Bay Reserve. This allows residents access to boat launching areas at Double Bay Reserve, Torea and Portage. On all other side roads, between Kenepuru Road to the Heads no vehicles over 8m in length or 3.5 tonne in weight are permitted. The following restrictions also apply on Kenepuru Road and it's side roads including Moetapu Bay Road;

Extreme care should be exercised and daylight driving only is strongly recommended. Resident Definition:The definition of a resident, in terms of who is able to access roads restricted to resident and emergency services is; A permanent resident, owner of a holiday home/bach, or the owner of a commercial interest. It does not include visitors who are hiring or renting a holiday home or bach, where rental arrangements have been made through either a property letting agency or directly with the owner. For a full list of what is deemed an emergency or essential service visit the Council's website. Other Recovery RoadsPlease be aware that on all roads, including those with public access, there may be areas of works and traffic management in place. Please expect delays and follow all signage and traffic management. Heavy rain may lead to roads needing to be closed urgently. No matter the status of the road, drive to the conditions. Awatere |
|
|
Following this weekend’s wet weather a large under slip has developed on Awatere Valley Road, approximately 2km from Jordan Bridge. The road is open to one lane with a 30km temporary speed limit in place. Assessments are underway at the site for repairs to be undertaken. Drivers are urged to travel with caution and follow all traffic management signage at this site. |

French Pass |

|
The construction of a new retaining wall, 5km from Okiwi Bay on the Croisilles-French Pass Road continues. H-Piles have all been augered, and the team began installing timber lagging this week. The traffic lights at this site will be removed once the remedial works have been completed. The installation of a new culvert on Hope Drive, Okiwi Bay was completed this week and the road has been reinstated. Work to install a box culvert on Ronga Road, 10km from the start of the road is scheduled to start on Monday 21 October. This work will be under stop/go traffic management with delays of up to 20 minutes. From Tuesday 5 to Thursday 7 November, these works will require night closures from 6pm to 6am. |

Kenepuru Road |

|
Daytime closures remain on Kenepuru Road, from Onahau Road, Monday to Thursday 8am to 12pm and 12.30pm to 5pm. On Fridays the closure will be in place 8am to 12pm and 12.30pm to 3.30pm. These closures are for the construction of a retaining wall, drainage improvements and road reinstatement, 20km from the start of the road at the Water Tank slip site. Please refer to the road closure section for further information. Progress continues on pile installation along the base of the new retaining wall at Water Tank slip. Once completed the team will move towards installing the timber lagging along the face of the retaining wall. Work on the retaining wall near Torea prior to Portage on Kenepuru Road continues this week with waler (horizontal support beam) installation. The crew is backfilling the retaining wall in stages, in coordination with the installation of timber support poles. Work to clear a slip 1km before the Lawrence Road turn off on Kenepuru Road, prior to Portage, is complete and the road has been reinstated to two lanes. Please note we are currently undertaking unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) surveying along Kenepuru Road. The UAV surveys topographical features of the road and surrounding slopes/slips to inform designs. |

Moetapu Bay |

On Monday 21 October work on Moetapu Bay Road will begin under daytime construction closures, 1.6km from the start of Moetapu Bay Road. During the closure, a road retreat, drainage improvements and road reinstatement at Driftwood Corner will begin. The first stage of this work will be carried out under a weekday road closure from 9am to 3pm with hourly openings. Work will also be carried out under stop/go outside of the times outlined above. Please expect delays. |

Queen Charlotte Drive |
|
|
Progress continues on Queen Charlotte Drive at two new operational sites between Momorangi and Whenuanui (Becks Bay) under construction. At the new retaining wall site between Momorangi and Ngakuta Bay. Rail irons have been drilled, timber lagging has been installed, and backfilling of the wall completed as the team move to install anchors. These works will be carried out under stop/go traffic management, please plan ahead for minor delays. A second site has been estabilished 7km from Picton above Whenuanui (Becks Bay) where the road is being re-aligned. Crews have worked to remove the temporary bund from site to start the works and pour the concrete channel. Concrete channel works have been completed at the road retreat site 500m before Aussie Bay. To maximise efficiency, linemarking at this site is scheduled to be undertaken with other sites along Queen Charlotte Drive. Please keep to the reduced temporary speed limits when you're travelling through our worksites to ensure the safety of crews and road users. We thank you for your patience. |

Rai Valley |
|
|
The team continue to work on Opouri Road, Rai Valley. The first of two culverts was installed last week, with the second being installed today. Work to widen the water table in areas is also underway. Once this work is completed the team will prepare the road surface for resealing. |

Waihopai Valley |
|
|
Work on the new bridge on Waihopai Valley Road continues this week with installation of the bridge spans that form the bridge deck. Work on the approach to the bridge from the existing road remains scheduled to begin later in the month. The current bailey bridge will continue to operate as crews build the new bridge. Please expect increased activity around this area. |
