Young children need more exercise

A UWA study, the largest of its kind globally, examined physical activity in children aged between two and five years old, has found 66% of children are not getting the nationally recommended three hours of daily physical activity needed for growth and development. Find out more.

 

SunSmart Club of the Year

Triathlon WA in partnership with Healthway held a competition to encourage clubs across the state to adopt healthy practices and SunSmart behaviours. Congratulations to SunSmart Club of the Year the Perth Hills Triathlon Club. The club was recognised for developing a healthy club culture to improve the health and wellbeing of their members and supporters. Find out more.

 

Nutrition inequality in WA

A Healthway funded study by Dr Stephanie Godrich found that 20% of regional and remote children were food insecure, 66% ate enough fruit and 15% ate enough vegetables to meet national recommendations. Food supply determinants (outlets location, variety, promotion, price) significantly predicted vegetable intake. The research informed further cross-sector projects that are currently underway.
