1. Complex staging for traffic switches

Story
Story

One down, five to go. Six traffic switches are required to complete the Southern Interchange where it ties in with the existing highway.

Switch #1 took place on 8 July when traffic was moved off Cambridge Road and on to new lanes under the East West Link Bridge. Switch #2 begins on Tuesday 1 October (see next article for details). Over the coming months, the southbound lane will be moved around on the sealed area north of the Tamahere Interchange as crews complete the remaining sections of the highway.

2. Diversion ahead on SH1 at Tamahere

Traffic heading south from Hamilton on State Highway 1 will encounter a short detour at Tamahere for up to six weeks from Tuesday 1 October. Traffic will be diverted down the Tamahere Interchange south-bound off-ramp, through the roundabout on Tauwhare Road and up the south-bound on-ramp (see diagram below).

Motorists catching flights from Hamilton Airport are encouraged to use SH3 or allow more time for the trip. Commuters can expect traffic delays at times during morning and evening peak traffic. Traffic management staff will be in place at the roundabout on Tauwhare Road during this time to keep highway traffic flowing. This diversion will allow road crews to rebuild SH1 where it ties in with the new expressway.

3. Extending Pardoa Boulevard

A change of road layout will also take place soon in Hamilton’s new suburb of Greenhill. Road crews are waiting for fine weather to chip seal the new layout.

Pardoa Boulevard will extend further east from the Wairere Drive/Gordonton Road roundabout, and travel under the new Greenhill Interchange on the expressway. It will connect with Greenhill Road east of the expressway. Access to the western section of Greenhill Road will continue from Gordonton Road.
