Coronavirus (COVID-19) | Update for Residents and Families

Dear Resident or Family Member,

COVID-19 UPDATE – Further COVID-19 cases at Calvary Narracan Gardens

Following our last update to residents and families, I am writing to advise that through the testing regime, an additional eleven (11) staff have tested positive for COVID-19. This brings the total number in the current outbreak at Narracan Gardens to fourteen (14) staff. We would like to reassure you that several of these positive staff acquired COVID-19 in the community, outside the Home.

We are pleased to report that no residents have tested positive to COVID-19. Testing was conducted yesterday, 10 January, and all results were returned negative.

For the safety of residents and staff and in consultation with the Public Health Unit, Calvary Narracan Gardens remains closed to visitors until the Public Health Unit deems it safe to re-open. Residents will need to remain in, and continue to be cared for in their rooms.

We understand that it is very difficult for residents to be cared for in their rooms and not have visitors. Please be assured that our team will continue to ensure the holistic care needs of all residents are met and calls and video conferencing is available for loved ones to remain in contact.

Visitation exceptions may be made for residents receiving end of life care, or who may be experiencing distress, or where a special care and support role is provided. Please speak with the Manager of your Home to discuss arrangements.

Please be assured that our staff have prepared for COVID-19 exposures and outbreaks such as this. Our staff are trained in strict infection control procedures and are focusing all of their attention on the individual care needs of residents.

We know that this will be worrying for you and your loved ones in our care. We want to assure you that we are doing everything possible to continue to look after the health and wellbeing of all our residents while keeping them safe during this difficult time.

Calvary will update you again once we hear from the local Public Health Unit that the Home is safe to re-open.

Thank you for your continued understanding and patience at this time.

Sincerely,

Sharon MartindaleGeneral Manager Aged Care
