Road widening on Ōrākei Road – what to expect.

Our work is taking a little longer to complete than originally expected to accommodate important design changes. This includes widening the road so we can add a left turn in lane for entry into the Train Station car park, which will help through traffic flow more freely.

Work will continue to be carried out without lane closures and to maintain the safety of the work crews, pedestrians and cyclists, traffic will be slowed past work areas.

Work will be carried out on the northern (Train Station) side of the road first and completed by Christmas, and in January our crews will move to the southern side of the road outside Ōrākei Bay Event Centre.

The footpath will be closed while we are working, and pedestrian crossing points will be in place and sign posted detours to direct people travelling toward Kepa Road or Shore Road.

We appreciate everyone’s ongoing patience while we work and ask drivers to observe the 30km/hr speed limit for the safety of everyone.

Landscaping will take place sometime after April next year, when the weather is more suitable for planting.

Work along Ngapipi Road

Our work will largely be finished by the end of the year, except for some road marking which will take place in January.

We are currently widening the road so we can realign Ngapipi Road towards the cliff where it passes the boatsheds. This will provide space for the shared path outside the boatsheds and a parking bay.

Over the weekend of 17 -18 December Ngapipi Road outside the sheds will be closed to traffic for the realignment to take place. Detours will be in place and people should plan ahead and consider alternative routes.

Pedestrian access will be continuously open. There is currently a very narrow section of path at the reserve end of the boatsheds – we ask cyclists to kindly dismount for the safety of other users.
