Colleagues,

As we enter the 2022 fall semester, we are shining a spotlight on a range of work being done by our SPH community. This is the first email in a 12-week, limited series.

We are highlighting work across the School, welcoming feedback, with our goal of being ever better at fulfilling our mission. Today, read about our Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice Syllabus Review.

Thank you for all you do, every day, to improve the health of populations.

Warmly,

SPOTLIGHT ON SPH

Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice Syllabus Review

A commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice (DEIJ) is essential for public health practice and education. As part of this commitment, the DEIJ and Education Committees at SPH are supporting the review of almost 200 course syllabi to evaluate how we are doing across the spectrum of DEIJ and to ensure that the principles of DEIJ are embedded in all we do as a School.

Syllabus Assessment Guide

This guide was developed over the course of a year, with input from the full SPH community, including voices of faculty, staff, and students. In the fall of 2022, we are hosting workshops for our instructors to discuss and complete the assessment together to provide a baseline for our work towards more inclusive classrooms and syllabi.

Our principles of DEIJ are embedded into our School and guide us in all that we do. Through this review process, we will thoroughly explore how these principles are embedded in how we teach our students and the types of class experiences we create, all towards our goal of creating a vibrant, inclusive community that values and elevates diverse voices.
