As we approach Memorial Day weekend, we pause to remember and honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. Their courage and commitment to something greater than themselves are values we strive to teach through the game of basketball—teamwork, discipline, and dedication. This weekend is not only a time for remembrance, but also a moment to reflect on the freedoms we enjoy, including the opportunity to gather, play, and grow through sports like those offered here in the West Hartford Girls Basketball League.

In that spirit, we are thrilled to share some exciting news!

Summer Basketball Returns to West Hartford!
After a three-year hiatus, summer basketball is back for girls in West Hartford! While this year's experience will look a little different, we are proud to support the launch of a new program called “Summer Nights Hardwood Basketball,” organized by the Town of West Hartford and run by a respected third-party organization, On the Court.

Unlike previous years when games were held outdoors on the blacktop at Duffy Elementary School, this summer’s games will take place indoors at Conard High School—ensuring a consistent and weather-proof playing experience.

Here’s what you need to know:

• Who: Girls ages 8–14

• What: Pick-up style games organized by On the Court staff

• When: Tuesdays from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM, starting July 8 and ending August 5

• Where: Conard High School Gymnasium

• Cost: $68 per child - players will be provided a reversible basketball jersey, which they must bring with them each week

While this program is separate from WHGBL, we are proud to promote and support participation as it aligns with our mission to develop young female athletes in a fun and inclusive environment. If you're looking to give your daughter additional time on the court and a chance to continue developing her game over the summer, this is an excellent opportunity to do just that.
