Safer journeys are here for people driving on State Highway 2 between College Road and Silverstream in Central Hawke’s Bay with the upgrade of the road now complete.

The upgrade project involved realigning the road by easing its curves, incorporating a new southbound passing lane, wider roadside shoulders, side and median barriers, as well as a right turn bay into College Road.

Last week our contractor finished installing flexible median barrier on the road, the final safety improvement to be made as part of this project.

The completion of this project marks the delivery of 10 of 13 Regional Investment Package projects. As part of the NZ Upgrade Programme, these 13 state highway projects address key challenges our regional highway networks face and contribute to creating a safer and more resilient transport network, supporting regional development
