Flavonoid-Rich Fruit Consumption in May Ward Off Dementia

A new study led by Phillip Hwang found that higher intake of flavonoid-rich fruits in middle-aged adults was significantly associated with a lower risk of dementia, compared to a low intake of these fruits. Read more.

Extreme Heat May Substantially Raise Mortality Risk for People Experiencing Homelessness

A new study led by Jonathan Jay found that deaths among unhoused people in two major West Coast cities were 10 to 100 times greater than heat-attributable deaths among the general population. Read more.

Christina Freibott, Jack Yeh, and Yareliz Diaz (from L to R), PhD students in health services and policy research, have received National Institutes of Health R36 dissertation awards. Their projects, respectively, will address opioid overdose prevention, HIV care and alcohol use among women, and the mental health of Puerto Rican migrant families in crisis.

 
 

Claire Pernat (L) and Yufei Li, PhD students in health services and policy research, have been appointed to serve on AcademyHealth advisory committees. Pernat is a member of the Global Health and Health Care Interest Group, and Li is a member of the Health Workforce Interest Group. 

 
 

Allison Portnoy, assistant professor of global health, coauthored a recent report published by the Immunization Economics Community of Practice, which presents research principles that can inform national and global planning, budgeting, and funding guidelines for reducing the prevalence of zero-dose children.
