We're writing to remind you that State Highway 2 over the Remutaka Hill will be closed for one night from 9pm Sunday 13 December to 4am Monday 14 December.
This 1-night closure will enable our road crews to safely undertake essential maintenance and slip prevention works.
The steep, narrow and winding road is a challenging work environment - having it fully closed to traffic is critical to ensure the safety of our team. Night time there is also less traffic.
Limited shuttle van service available
If you need to get over the hill for night work or essential commitments, please email remutaka@nzta.govt.nz as soon as possible to book your place on the shuttle service.
Access will always be available for emergency services throughout the closure.
