Hawke's Bay state highway planned roadworks

Friday 25 October to Friday 31 October

23 October 2025

Kia ora,

Welcome to this week’s Hawke’s Bay state highway planned roadworks update.

This weekly newsletter provides you with information about what’s happening across the region’s state highway network – from the summer road renewals to key recovery work – so you can plan ahead.

Hawke’s Bay Anniversary Day kicks off the long weekend tomorrow. This means we’ll pause most state highway works from today through to midnight Monday (Labour Day), unless approved to work. For example, nightworks on State Highway 2 (SH2) between Westshore and Bay View are approved to begin at 8pm on Labour Day.

Before you travel on the state highways, check Journey Planner or Facebook for the latest information.

Dates in this update may change at short notice due to weather or other unforeseen factors. If a state highway is not included in this update, there are no major or disruptive works planned for that corridor.

Ngā mihi nui,

The NZTA Hawke’s Bay team

Bridge checks start next week

From Wednesday next week, we’ll be inspecting state highway bridges across the region.

We check the bridges are safe and fit-for-purpose. Crews will start on SH2 in the Wairoa district, then move south through Napier and Hastings (SH2 and SH51) and finish in Central Hawke’s Bay (SH2 and SH50).

Most checks will happen during the day with stop/go traffic management in place, with short delays expected.

One bridge needs extra work. The Tukituki River (Waipukurau) Bridge on SH2 in Waipukurau will also have a level survey done at the same time. The bridge will be closed for short times between 9am to 3pm on Monday 3 November so the survey equipment can take accurate measurements without vibration or movement from passing vehicles. You can expect up to 15 minute delays at the bridge. Thanks for your patience.
