Together, we remain committed to supporting and empowering international education and our international students, ensuring that our state continues to thrive as a hub of innovation, inclusivity, and excellence. NSW International Education Advisory Board welcomes new ChairStudy NSW is pleased to welcome Professor Patricia Davidson as the new Chair of the NSW International Education Advisory Board (IEAB). Since its inception in 2014, the Board has served as a crucial platform for industry collaboration and expert guidance, shaping the strategic direction of Study NSW. We are excited to work with Patricia, leveraging her leadership and expertise to strengthen our efforts to support the international education sector in New South Wales. NSW is making waves in global educationStudy NSW proudly supports the University of Wollongong’s (UOW) expansion into India, marking an exciting milestone in global education. Through Investment NSW's trade office in Mumbai, we facilitated key connections with government officials and prominent businesses in Gujarat, paving the way for this new campus under the NSW-Gujarat sister-state agreement established in 2015. This expansion underscores UOW’s dedication to delivering world-class education and broadening access for students globally. Congratulations to UOW on the launch of their new campus—a testament to their commitment to fostering global learning and collaboration! UOW is one of many NSW institutions taking our state’s quality education to the world and we look forward to supporting more providers to do the same. ![]() Study NSW wraps up 2024 roadshows at TAFE NSWStudy NSW has wrapped up its final roadshow of the year, with TAFE NSW serving as our last stop! Since the start of 2024, we’ve visited campuses across New South Wales to strengthen our connections with education institutions. The roadshow fostered collaboration and the exchange of ideas, offering valuable opportunities to share updates on our latest programs and discuss upcoming initiatives. If you'd like to host the Study NSW team at your campus, please email study.nsw@investment.nsw.gov.au. ![]() New course search tool to explore study optionsThe Study Australia Course Search tool is now available on the Study NSW website. This enhanced resource empowers students to explore a wide range of Australian study options—whether in Australia, online, or at campuses worldwide. The new tool features an improved user experience, new careers database, course data, profiles of Australian education providers and provider scholoarships. Promote the International Student Sentiment Survey to international studentsAustrade and Study NSW invite education providers and partners to promote the annual International Student Sentiment Survey. Insights collected from the survey will help us identify student needs, improve access to information and support services. The survey is open for responses until 6 December 2024. Students who complete the survey will have a chance to win one of 10 e-gifts card worth AU$100. Industry news and opportunities Connect with the student accommodation sectorThe Student Accommodation Association, in collaboration with Study NSW, is hosting an industry lunch on 10 December for accommodation providers, educational institutions, and organisations focused on student support service. This event offers a chance to connect with key stakeholders, explore case studies, learn about the National Property Accreditation Scheme accreditation processes, and gain insights to elevate your organisation by enhancing the international student accommodation experience. Lead the next generation of young professionalsThe IEAA Young Professionals Network supports emerging professionals in international education who are looking to accelerate their careers. As Co-Chair, you'll engage with your state network, other chapter leaders, and the IEAA Secretariat to share ideas, create meaningful development opportunities, and connect young professionals. Expressions of interest for IEAA Young Professionals Co-Chair positions close on Sunday, 8 December. New report examines impact of proposed National Planning Level on Australia’s housing marketThe Property Council has published a new report analysing the potential impact of the proposed National Planning Levels on international student numbers in Australia. The report also highlights that purpose-built student accommodation has kept pace with the growth in international student numbers, providing essential housing options for students. Government programs and updates NSW Skills Plan to rebuild VET sector and skills workforce pipelineThe NSW Government has launched the NSW Skills Plan to help guide the transformation of vocational education and training (VET) and tackle pressing skills gaps in industries such as manufacturing, renewable energy, construction, and care and support – sectors vital to NSW’s future. With job vacancies in NSW’s critical skills areas such as construction, caring industries and advanced manufacturing at 175,000 in the year to October 2024, this Plan will help focus efforts in the vocational sector, building the workforce needed to deliver on government priorities and supporting essential services in our community. The Plan works together with a new State Migration Plan, which will attract skilled workers from overseas to address shortages while driving NSW’s economic growth. New resources to enhance international student engagementThe Australian Government Department of Education has released six guides and a framework aimed at enhancing international student engagement. Join one of the webinar series where Deakin University's project team will provide an overview of these resources and explain how education providers can effectively implement the recommendations. NSW Government resources to prevent gambling harm among international studentsThe NSW Government has developed downloadable resources to educate and empower the community to make informed choices, take action to prevent gambling harm, and seek support when needed. Download these resources and share them with your students. Student spotlight Exploring NSW, pursuing a career in auditing, and reconnecting with familyAt 16 years old, Zach was dazzled by the beauty and diversity of Sydney’s landscapes, iconic landmarks, and wildlife, with a special fondness for Chinatown, the Opera House, and The Rocks precinct. He also encourages international students to explore Wollongong and Newcastle to experience the charm of regional NSW. After graduating, Zach aims to work in an auditing firm in Australia before returning to Malaysia, where he believes his education and experience will open many opportunities in the finance industry, while also reconnecting with his family. “Research how to manage your money and where you want to live in NSW. I chose to live on campus because I spend more time at home, and campus accommodation comes with catering. This helped me save lots on food and transport.” What's on
