Public hearings for the NSW Legislative Assembly Inquiry into the Impacts of the Water Amendment (Restoring Our Rivers) Act 2023 moved north last week, with sessions in Narrabri and Bourke. Cotton Australia’s General Manager Michael Murray presented evidence alongside local irrigator groups, highlighting concerns about rules-based changes that diminish water entitlement reliability. Cotton Australia CEO Adam Kay recently represented the industry at the World Expo in Osaka, presenting at Australian Natural Fibres Day and joining a panel with key Japanese brands that use Australian cotton. The event reinforced Australia’s reputation for high-quality fibre and strengthened partnerships with international brands. The Annual General Meeting of Central Downs Irrigator Limited (CDIL) was held in Dalby last week. Cotton Australia attended and welcomed Nic Clapham’s continuation as Chair, along with the reappointment of the other directors.
