The SH22 / Glenbrook Road roundabout is complete!

June marked the end of our final works on the SH22 / Glenbrook Road roundabout project.

With work outside the Pukekohe Golf Course and by the SH22 Caltex now finished, we were able to remove the last road cones and reveal the new roundabout in all its glory.

Temporary speed limits have been removed and it's great to see motorists and the community adjusting well to their safe new roundabout.

We do have some additional roadside planting planned over winter months to complete the 'look and feel' of the roundabout, however this work should not disrupt motorists.

The fourth 'leg' of the roundabout into the new Paerata Rise development will open when the developer has completed their site works and requirements.  Once open, residents and visitors travelling along SH22 or approaching from Glenbrook Road will be able to access Paerata Rise using this new connection.

Celebration event

On Thursday 26 May, a special event was held to celebrate the opening of the new roundabout.  The Minister of Transport Michael Wood joined representatives from Waka Kotahi, iwi, Auckland Systems Management (ASM), HEB Construction and the Franklin Local Board at the celebration.  The Minister spoke about how the new roundabout will mean safer journeys for those travelling on SH22, and thanked those who carried out the mahi.

We spoke to some people at the event about what the roundabout means to them and the local community.  You can view the video by clicking on this link -

Road to Zero

The SH22 Glenbrook Roundabout project is aligned to New Zealand’s Road Safety Strategy, Road to Zero 2020-2030.

Between January 2015 and December 2019 there had been 21 recorded crashes within 400 metres of the intersection of Karaka, Glenbrook and Paerata Roads.

This project is part of a programme of work delivering safety improvements, including speed management, on our highest risk intersections and roads across New Zealand.
