GOLDEN OPPORTUNITY FOR YOUNG EVENTING STARS TO REPRESENT WA AT NATIONALS

WA's young equestrian stars will have the chance to qualify for the 2023 Interschool National Championships in Victoria thanks to Equestrian WA's new Interschool Eventing Series.

As part of a bumper 2023 season, the Interschool Eventing Series will include Capel CCN, WAYER CCI and Harvey CCN. There are no qualifiers to compete in this series.

Interschools classes will only be offered in the junior classes in EvaJ65 through to Junior 1* and 2*.

Riders need to make sure they are competitive members of EA to be included in the series.

Awards will go to the top placing riders in each height and the Overall Eventing Champion and Champion Eventing School.

There must be three riders from a school to be counted as a team.

*Riders can enter and compete in both Combined Training and Eventing*

This is a great opportunity for WA's future equestrian stars to represent their school and compete in the eastern states on the National stage.

After a tremendously successful campaign at this year's Interschool Nationals in Sydney, WA is set for another huge tilt at next year's nationals at Werribee in September.

Further information relating to the Interschool Eventing Series and the 2023 Interschool WA State Championships will be provided soon.

A special event being held as part of International Day of People with Disability will provide people the chance to learn more about the extraordinary opportunities available in the world of Para-Equestrian.

The event is taking place on Saturday 3 December between 10:00am and 12:00pm at Horseland Midland, located at 2/147 Great Eastern Hwy, Bellevue. The event is free to attend, and a sausage sizzle will be provided.

PUBLIC COMMENT INVITED ON MEASURES TO ENHANCE HORSE WELFARE

Horse owners and carers are encouraged to have their say on proposed new standards to support the wellbeing of horses in Western Australia.

The State Government has released the draft Standards and Guidelines for the Health and Welfare of Horses in Western Australia for public comment.

The document sets out the minimum standards for owners and people in charge of horses to follow to ensure the health and welfare of horses in their care.

It also provides guidelines and additional information to further promote positive animal welfare outcomes.

The document encompasses:

  • general care, including health and management;
  • the conditions under which horses are kept and handled;
  • events; and
  • natural disasters.

Separately, national standards and guidelines are being reviewed which cover the transportation of horses.

The WA Government is leading the nation by developing comprehensive standards and guidelines for all horses, which will potentially provide a model for new national standards.

There were renewed calls for standards to be developed in 2019, following a report into the treatment of retired racehorses.

To view the proposed horse standards and guidelines in WA and to provide feedback, visit the Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development's engagement website at https://yoursay.dpird.wa.gov.au/wa-horse-standards-and-guidelines

The consultation period closes Monday 19 December.

The final Show Horse Leaderboard of 2022 is now available! Visit the Show Horse Leaderboard webpage to check out how our stars performed throughout the year!

THANK YOU FOR A BIG 2022 AS WE LOOK AHEAD TO 2023

The Show Horse Committee would like to thank all EWA Members for competing at EWA and affiliated club events throughout 2022. We hope you had a successful season.

We are pleased and proud that the Eastern States judges who come to our shows are very complimentary of our horses and riders and the way our shows are conducted.

As well as focussing on our team to represent Western Australia at the Australasian Show Horse and Rider Championships, (“The Nationals”) we are also turning our attention to the Show Horse Awards function where we will award the Leaderboard winners andfive lucky winners of the EWA Members Triple Cash Bonanza.

To be eligible for the fantastic Triple Cash Bonanza you must have competed, either as the owner of a horse/pony or rider, at all three of the EWA Show Horse events in 2022. The three qualifying events are the Autumn Pageant, Winter Gala and the EWA and Endeavon Products Horse and Rider of the Year.  The Newcomer classes are not a qualifying event.

Based on our assessment of entries via Nominate, we have identified the EWA Members who are eligible. If you competed at all three events, and your name is not on this list please contact Val Mayger at vmayger@bigpond.net.au or on 0417 991 364 by 31 December 2022.

You would need to be able to prove that you own a horse that competed at all three events or that you rode (or participated in Lead Rein) at all three events.  Entering a horse but scratching before the show or on the day does not count. CLICK HERE to find out if you are eligible.

The Show Horse Awards function will likely be held in late January 2023.  We will advise of the date and venue in due course. There may be a small cost to cover any hire and light refreshment expenses.

The winners of the $500 first prize and four prizes of $125 in the Triple Cash Bonanza will be made by a random draw at the Show Horse Awards function.

We look forward to celebrating the end of the show season with all our show horse competitors in a casual relaxed setting.
