Runway Resurfacing
A perfect weather window has provided the opportunity to complete the airport runway resurfacing. The design chosen has reduced the cost of the construction work by $540k and will provide a surface expected to last 12-14 years.
Tauck Tours begins Summer Season
Charter tour groups have commenced 28th September and will continue on throughout the summer months. Fiordland is attracting high demand from these premium groups. Forward bookings are already secured through 2027, and strong indications of continuing through to at least 2028.
Total Landings Year to Date
Total landings have grown at the airport. Year to date there have been 1896 landings and projected activity is expected to grow.
Leases
Momentum in interest of private and commercial hangar space continues to grow with new inquiries pointing to a rising appetite for aviation-related investment. This trend bodes well for the airport’s long-term viability and its potential to attract further commercial activity.
Airport Masterplan Aviation Review
The Airport Masterplan has now been completed, and suggestions identified have been incorporated into a further updated version which has also been peer reviewed. The master plan establishes a blueprint for future activities at the airport site and ensures that onsite activities support aviation requirements.
Capital Attraction Process
The council has made a significant decision to support the process of attracting private investment into the airport infrastructure and potential operations, following previous early-stage investor interest. The process will endorse Council procurement processes and nationally accepted procurement standards. The work will commence in earnest in January 2026, and it is expected that any commercial agreements will be completed by September 2026.
