Our Next Meeting
Barnet VCFSE Environmental NetworkThursday 19 May, 10.30 - 12noon
If you've already been to a Barnet VCFSE Environmental Network meeting then you'll automatically receive a MS Teams link for our 15th meeting on 19 May. If you've not joined us yet, then do email Ellen. These are informal and informative networking sessions for those working in the Barnet Voluntary, Community, Faith & Social Enterprise (VCFSE) sector, where we can come together to discuss environmental issues in the Borough, and work out how we as a sector can make a difference. This networking group will raise awareness of environmental projects that are happening in the Borough, help to establish partnerships and joint initiatives and seek funding
opportunities. We'll be joined, at the May meeting, by Ashleigh Watkins, Town Centre Investment Manager from Barnet Council who will bring us up to speed on the work of the Town Team and how we can work with them. If you have any topics you would like to
raise/discuss at future meetings, do let Ellen know. FOR PAST E-NEWSLETTERS

The Queen's Platinum Jubilee
This year sees Her Majesty The Queen become the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee. To mark this historic 70-year reign, celebrations will take place across Britain over an extended bank holiday weekend. From Thursday 2 to Sunday 5 June, the nation will come together to celebrate this landmark event. And just as in previous jubilee years we expect Barnet to be a blaze of colour. Over 100 applications have been received for street parties, and there are plenty of public community events to take part. Take a look at what's
happening. If you are planning any events which you want adding to the Council's website and PR email strategy@barnet.gov.uk
DID YOU KNOW >> That there is still funding for tree plantings as part of The Queen’s Green Canopy (QGC) which invites people from across the United Kingdom to “Plant a Tree for the Jubilee”. Find out more

Sustainability and climate change strategy for education
The Department for Education has published its sustainability and climate change strategy for education and children's services, with the aim of both educating children and young people so they can take positive action on sustainability; and making the education estate and its supply chains environmentally sustainable. Strategic objectives include: - By 2025 we will aim to introduce a natural
history GCSE, giving young people a further opportunity to engage with and develop a deeper knowledge and understanding of the natural world.
- From 2022, to assess the impact of our action, we will introduce an annual climate literacy survey to benchmark progress in improving the climate knowledge of school leavers.
- Considering the whole physical education estate as a virtual National Education Nature Park, to engage children and young people with the natural world and directly involve them in measuring and improving biodiversity in their nursery, school, college or university.
