This past Monday marked a milestone for the West Hartford Republican Town Committee (RTC). We held our official endorsement meeting and were inspired by a record-breaking number of applicants seeking to run for public office as Republican candidates. The enthusiasm and commitment to public service that we witnessed is unlike anything we’ve seen before—and it’s a testament to the energy growing within our local movement.

After careful vetting and robust discussion, the RTC proudly endorsed the following individuals to represent our party in the upcoming municipal elections:

Town Council Candidates:

• Al Cortes – Incumbent Town Councilor and champion for low-income housing

• Dr. Gayle Harris – OBGYN, Board of Education member, and strong advocate for sensible education reform

• Kyle Zelazny – Policy expert with legal expertise and previous BOE candidate

• John Lyons – Social media strategist, former Democrat turned principled Republican

• Dr. Jason Wang – Addiction medicine physician and traffic/pedestrian safety advocate, also former Democrat turned principled Republican

• Ben Lewis – Local business executive and long-standing conservative voice

Board of Education Candidate:

• Miriam Bleich – Dedicated parent and respected advocate for children, with strong expertise in the area of special needs policies

This is one of the most diverse, accomplished, and forward-thinking slates we’ve ever assembled.

We also extend our heartfelt thanks to Mark Zydanowicz for his 13 years of outstanding service—nine on the Board of Education and four on the Town Council, including the last two as Minority Leader. His dedication to our town and our values has been exemplary.
