Click here ![]() Chris McLennan The Great South Update March 2021 We will all be very disappointed about COVID-19 Alert Levels 2 & 3 being imposed across the country again. It does feel like a disproportionate imposition on our region when we see the number of events, activities and travel having to be cancelled. The financial impacts on businesses and communities is huge and the personal toll on our people is equally devastating. I know many people will support the health response but I personally feel it’s time to develop a more nuanced approach to alert levels, particularly in regions outside of Auckland, rather than the blanket approach we’ve had for 12 months now. On another note, businesses are reporting difficulty in attracting skilled staff to their businesses and, in many cases, to the region. This is a national issue but Great South is aware of the need to develop a strategy to support this attraction to Southland. In the meantime, some resource for this is already available on our website and I would encourage businesses to include a link to southlandnz.com in their job advertising. It’s really good content that paints a welcoming picture of the benefits of working, studying and living in Southland.
