Catastrophic Flooding in VermontOn July 12, 2023, the communities in and around Barre and nearby Montpelier, Vermont were hit with historic and catastrophic flooding of the Winooski River, when more than 8” of rain fell on the region. Pastor Carl Durham reports that, while the members of Covenant OPC in Barre, VT were spared, there is great need in both Barre and Montpelier, VT. The scope of the damage caused to homes throughout Vermont grows daily. Covenant OPC is reaching out to the community to aid those in need of mucking and drying out and welcomes others to join them in that effort. Members of the church have been able to aid and pray with a few homeowners, including a man who provides overflow housing for group home residents in the area. COPC member Dan Bair is learning of new opportunities every day. Please pray for that these efforts will open up opportunities to present the Gospel. Volunteers are welcome! Here's what they have to say about serving the Lord, reaching out to the lost, and spending a part of their summer on mission! English For Kids Testimonial: "My View from the Kitchen"6:00 AM. “Time to make the donuts!” Mornings started early at English for Kids Bible Camp at the Reformed Church of Beauce. This was my family’s second year serving with the OPC’s short-term mission to Quebec. Whereas I was a teacher last year, this year I had the unique perspective of working in the kitchen, providing meals for the U.S. team. It was awe-inspiring to see Christ use our OPC young people to serve, teach, lead, and love the children of St. Georges-de-Beauce, and to form life-long friendships with each other over the course of one week. These young people took on BIG responsibilities and exceeded expectations. Many of them expressed how lonely it can be to be in smaller OPC congregations with limited interaction with other OPC young people. This week was an encouragement to our youth just as much as they were an encouragement to the children. Opportunities and UpdatesNew Episodes! A Deacon's Personal Library In this episode, Shiloh OPC deacon and OPC CDM member Tim Hopper and Rev. C. N. Willborn, pastor of Covenant Presbyterian Church (PCA) in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, talk books—books specifically helpful for deacons to have in their personal libraries. From Bible reading plans to reader's guides to books on prayer to counseling, Nick and Tim cover a wide range of their recommended favorites in their discussion. There are even a few websites and videos they suggest checking out. Nick's wide range of insight and Tim's thirst for reading and knowledge on the subject of deacons makes this episode invaluable! Put your pen down; we've already made a list of these essential resources on our website. Real World Cases: Be Proactive In this episode, four seasoned deacons look at four different cases; three having to do with saints within the congregation and one really unique situation regarding a visitor to Vacation Bible School.
