This weekly newsletter will keep you informed about what’s happening across the region’s state highways so you can plan ahead. Recent wet weather may have affected progress at some of our worksites. SH1 Picton to ChristchurchSH1 Picton Elevation to Tuamarina work postponed Night time resurfacing work originally scheduled to take place from Sunday 18 January to Thursday 22 January between 6pm and 6am was postponed due to cooler temperatures. We will share the new dates for this work with you soon. SH1 north of Spring Creek Work is underway to rebuild a 1 kilometre section of highway with construction due to be completed by the end of March. During the following periods stop/go traffic management will be in place:
Expect delays of up to 10 minutes during this time. Outside of these dates, lanes will be open in both directions. A 30km/h temporary speed limit applies at all times. |

SH1 Lake Grassmere to Wharanui Pre-seal work originally planned to take place this week was postponed due to wet weather. This work will now take place between Monday 26 and Saturday 31 January, from 6.30am to 6pm each day. Stop/go traffic management will be in place and drivers should expect delays of up to 5 minutes. Crews will work in Wharanui on Monday and Tuesday, and in the Grassmere/Taimate area from Tuesday to Saturday. SH1 Hapuku Road rebuilding work continues between Factory Road and Skevingtons Road until 31 March. Work is underway on weekdays from 6am to 6pm, with some weekends as needed to keep the project moving. Stop/go traffic management is in place, and a 30 km/h temporary speed limit applies. Expect delays of up to 15 minutes. SH1 Peketa Seawall repairs are underway Mondays to Sundays until Sunday 15 February, from 6am to 8pm. Stop/go traffic management is in place, with delays of up to 15 minutes expected. Twice a day, the road will be held in both directions for up to 20 minutes so an excavator can be lowered or raised below the road during low tide. SH1 north of Amberley at Glasnevin A road rebuild is taking place until 30 January, from 6am to 6pm on weekdays. Northbound traffic will be closed with a detour in place, and the site will operate 24/7 from Monday to Saturday, opening both directions when possible. A 30 km/h temporary speed limit applies. The detour uses SH1, Douglas Road, Mount Brown Road, and Georges Road, and will add about 7 minutes to travel time. The southbound lane remains open. SH1 Woodend Road resurfacing work will take place between Rangiora Woodend Road and Parsonage Road at night between 8pm and 5pm from Sunday 25 to Tuesday 27 January. Stop/go traffic management will be in place on SH1, with local road closures and temporary speed limits. Delays of up to 10 minutes are expected. |

SH6 Blenheim to NelsonSH6 Mahers Road (upcoming work to begin on 9 February) A 500-metre section of highway about 5km north of Renwick will be rebuilt next month. Crews will establish onsite from Monday 9 February and will begin work on Monday 16 February. Work will be carried out Mondays to Fridays, from 7am to 6pm. Stop/go traffic management will be in place during work hours and a 30 km/h speed limit will apply at all times. Drivers should expect delays of up to 10 minutes. This work is scheduled to be completed by Friday 20 March. |
