Click here INDUSTRY NEWSLETTER Making everyone aware of the importance of wellness at seaWe’ve launched an updated free Wellness Awareness Campaign with extra resources, new content, videos and podcasts. The campaign is designed for companies to use with the whole maritime family - crew, their families and the staff who support them. It is a one-stop shop for companies who want their crews and shore staff to be healthy and happy and for that to be reflected in their bottom line. The campaign gives crucial wellness information and tips over nine easy to digest modules that cover everything from emotional wellbeing to physical health. Each module, contained in a handy booklet, will explore some of the most common challenges faced in each area and give practical advice and simple tools to navigate these in a positive way. Video and podcast content, created especially for this campaign, enhance the learning opportunities. Our Awareness Campaign will help to empower those taking part by explaining the basic principles of wellbeing and how to get support if needed. The campaign is adaptable and can easily accommodate your own resources and the handy Company Guide, which accompanies the campaign, lays out all the modules and provides tips on how to engage with them. To find out more contact our Head of Wellness, Johan Smith, at Thanks to the Merchant Navy Welfare Board for providing the funds to update these resources. United in our mission to improve the welfare of seafarers everywhereLast month saw London International Shipping Week (LISW) return bigger and better post-pandemic, with Sailors’ Society joining fellow maritime charities to put crew welfare front and centre of the event. As part of LISW, the charities hosted a very successful afternoon conference - ‘The S in ESG’, which focused on the increasing importance of seafarer welfare and wellbeing. Our CEO Sara Baade joined a panel looking at issues facing seafarers and the industry from diversity to the future for cadets. Thanks to all involved and those who attended for committing their time and attention to this vital subject at what was a very enlightening and forward-looking day. What does a net zero maritime world look like for our seafarers? On World Maritime Day, we reflected on what a greener, safer, happier world will actually mean for those who sail the seas to bring us what we need. Stepping out for Sailors' Society – the G2 Ocean global challenge A massive Thank You to employees of G2 Ocean who have spent the past six weeks taking part in their Global Steps Challenge for Sailors’ Society. Staff are completing an average of 8,000 steps a day by stepping out virtually across the world from their offices in Vancouver through those in South America, Europe, Africa, and Asia, finally finishing in Melbourne, Australia. We are extremely grateful to G2 Ocean for raising funds for us as an integral part of their campaign - Get in Motion with G2 Ocean – Make an Impact – which aims to promote sustainability by encouraging employees to replace carbon-intensive means of transport with walking, running or cycling. The funds raised will go towards our global work to provide practical, emotional and spiritual welfare support 24/7 to the world’s 1.9m seafarers. “On behalf of the seafarers and the families we work with - thank you for stepping out for Sailors’ Society. The more steps you take, the more money you raise to help support our maritime welfare work. So good luck on reaching that target of 59,416436 steps - we are supporting you all the way!” Sara Baade CEO, Sailors’ Society Some 15 amazing maritime ambassadors and members of #TeamSailorsSociety are set to reach the summit of the mighty Mount Kilimanjaro tomorrow (Wednesday) and raise much-needed funds for our work with seafarers and their families. The nine-day trek, which started on October 11, has seen our fundraisers take the beautiful Machame route through the tropical rainforest all the way up to the snow-capped peak of Africa’s highest mountain, standing at a massive 5,895m. This once-in-a-lifetime experience, sponsored by Swire Shipping and Swire Bulk, is also providing our intrepid climbers with a chance to network and hone their team-building skills. And you can follow their progress on our social feeds. Our grateful thanks go to Hou Ean Moh, Debbie Neo, Alexander Novakovic, Pierre Messara, Charles Poiron, Isabel Maguire, Lucien Whitworth, Rufus Frere-Smith, Weijun Li, Christian Castel, Madison Keller, Liam Morrison, Ben Hadfield, Jamie Gordon and Gordon Foot. Good luck and safe trekking! We would be delighted to speak to anyone who would be interested in taking part in any of our events or running an event of your own – contact us here. With December only two months away, it doesn’t seem too early to mention our Christmas Carol Service on Thursday December 14. Every year, generous maritime industry organisations take out adverts in our order of service to show their support and wish everyone a Happy Christmas. If you would like to place an advert this year, please contact Beth Courtier. If you are in London on December 14 and would like to attend the service, or if you would like to discuss supporting Sailors’ Society in any other way at Christmas, do also contact Beth.
