Parents newsletter - October 2025With the fall term well underway, students are settling into their routines. In October, students are preparing for midterms, looking at assignment deadlines and exploring opportunities for the future. It’s also a good time for students to explore career-related events, connect with potential employers and consider future work or co-op options. Keep an eye out for upcoming events and deadlines and encourage your Raven to familiarize themselves with Carleton’s career resources, upcoming job fairs and professional development opportunities as they plan for what’s next.Important Dates and Deadlines Monday, October 13, 2025: Statutory holiday. University closed. Monday, October 20 to Friday, October 24, 2025: Fall break. No classes. A Safe and Respectful Panda Game The annual Panda Game is on Sunday, October 5, 2025. By practicing safer substance use and being a good neighbour, Panda can be a fun, safe and respectful celebration of university sport for your student. This weekend, law enforcement will be present in the community to ensure safe and lawful behaviour with strict enforcement and heavy fines. Students should keep noise/music low, keep gatherings under control and respect property in their neighbourhood.
Upcoming Scholarship and Bursary Application Deadline The deadline to apply for a general undergraduate bursary, first generation bursary and Indigenous student bursary is Friday, October 31, 2025. Applications are also open for six Indigenous student scholarships and bursaries for the 2025-2026 academic year. Some applications are due Friday, October 31, 2025. Your student can apply through Carleton Central (log in through Carleton360). Fall Career & Networking Fair The Fall Career & Networking Fair on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, is an opportunity for Carleton students to practice their networking, learn about job opportunities and gain insights from employers from a range of industries. International Internship Applications: Winter & Summer In-person and virtual international internships offer your student a chance to gain degree-related work experience, develop international connections and earn academic credit. Applications are now open for winter and summer 2026. Too Good to Be True? How to Spot a Fraudulent Job posting or Recruitment Effort Is this a job scam? Is it too good to be true? The answer in most cases is yes. If someone wants to hire your student right away and send them money for doing nothing, then it’s a scam. Share these 10 warning signs with your student to help protect them from fraudulent practices when job hunting. “How to…” Drop-in Sessions – No Appointment? No Problem! The Centre for Student Academic Support’s “how to…” drop-in sessions are available Tuesdays to Thursdays from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in-person on the fourth floor of MacOdrum Library. Encourage your student to stop by and ask any learning or writing-related questions. Changing Program Elements Within the Same Degree Does your student want to add a concentration or minor to their degree? Perhaps they want to try a different discipline all together? Undergraduate students must request changes via the Change of Program Elements page in Carleton Central (log into Carleton360). If your student has any questions or concerns regarding changing their program elements, they can contact the Academic Advising Centre or the academic department responsible for the program they are interested in.
From Intention to Action (FITA) - Now Accepting Students! From Intention to Action (FITA) has moved to 810 Dunton Tower. FITA helps students manage university stress through weekly sessions with trained coordinators. Students can schedule an intake interview via Carleton’s Health and Counselling Services. Changing Address Online Your student can confirm Carleton has their correct address on file quickly and easily through Carleton Central (log in to Carleton360). Detailed instructions can be found on the Registrar’s Office website. Student Parking Options Carleton heard the concerns shared about availability for student parking on campus. As such, a student parking pass waitlist through the permit section of ParkAdmin will open on Thursday, October 2, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. Other options:
